Marked differences were observed in the composition of supra- and subgingival biofilm between healthy and diseased implants. The microbiota associated with peri-implantitis was comprised of more periodontal pathogenic bacterial species, including the supragingival biofilm.
In this randomized controlled trial, results for short (6-mm) implants were similar to those for longer (≥10-mm) implants in augmented bone. Short implants might be preferable to SFE, because the treatment is faster and less expensive. Long-term randomized controlled trials are required to confirm these results.
The purpose of this study is to explore the possibilities for the application of laser therapy in medicine and dentistry by analyzing lasers’ underlying mechanism of action on different cells, with a special focus on stem cells and mechanisms of repair. The interest in the application of laser therapy in medicine and dentistry has remarkably increased in the last decade. There are different types of lasers available and their usage is well defined by different parameters, such as: wavelength, energy density, power output, and duration of radiation. Laser irradiation can induce a photobiomodulatory (PBM) effect on cells and tissues, contributing to a directed modulation of cell behaviors, enhancing the processes of tissue repair. Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), can induce cell proliferation and enhance stem cell differentiation. Laser therapy is a non-invasive method that contributes to pain relief and reduces inflammation, parallel to the enhanced healing and tissue repair processes. The application of these properties was employed and observed in the treatment of various diseases and conditions, such as diabetes, brain injury, spinal cord damage, dermatological conditions, oral irritation, and in different areas of dentistry.
This study evaluated the impact of soft tissue grafts to reduce marginal peri-implant recession (MPR) after 1 year of follow-up. A total of 24 patients with one single failing maxillary incisor presenting facial bone dehiscence and receiving an immediate implant, bone graft, and provisional were randomly divided into three groups (n = 8 in each group): control (CTL), collagen matrix (CM), and connective tissue graft (CTG). Clinical, photographic, and tomographic analyses were performed to evaluate tissue alterations. The use of a CTG avoided MPR (P < .05) and provided better contour of the alveolar ridge (P < .01) and greater thickness (P < .05) of the soft tissue at the implant facial aspect.

The use of short (8-mm) locking-taper implants is a predictable treatment modality for the restoration of single tooth gaps of posterior segments of dentition.
The immediate placement of single-tooth Morse taper connection implants in the anterior maxilla seems to represent a successful procedure, from an aesthetic point of view. Further studies are needed to evaluate the aesthetic outcome of single-tooth Morse taper connection implants placed in fresh extraction sockets of the anterior maxilla.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
