Carithers has summarized nicely the historical development of cat-scratch disease. He pays proper tribute to Drs. Debré, Foshay, Rose, Mollaret, Keefer, Greer, Daniel and others. The course of this illness, the theories of its etiology, its histopathology and details of the various complications of the disease, including thrombocytopenia, are well described in papers by Carithers, Warwick, Margileth and others.
The purpose of this report is to document the case of a patient with confirmed cat-scratch disease, who had a complication that has not been reported previously. This case report illustrates non-thrombocytopenic purpura in a 12-year-old boy with cat-scratch disease.
