A pandemia de Covid-19 tem se tornado a maior crise sanitária desde a gripe espanhola ocorrida no início do século XX. Neste cenário, a cadeia de suprimentos dos hospitais foi um dos setores bastante impactados durante os picos de contágio. Face a esta situação, a pesquisa buscou identificar os principais desafios vividos e as ações adotadas pelas lideranças vinculadas à cadeia de suprimentos de um hospital público universitário durante os primeiros 18 meses da pandemia de Covid-19. Para isso, realizou-se um estudo de caso, com análise qualitativa sobre as experiências vividas pelas chefias da cadeia de suprimentos de um hospital público, durante este período. Os resultados revelaram que vários desafios foram vivenciados, mas que as decisões estratégicas tomadas se mostraram efetivas para manter o hospital com os materiais de que necessitava, principalmente em momentos de escassez de oferta.

O estudo foi realizado por meio de uma revisão integrativa da literatura cujo o tema foi pesquisado nas bases de dados Scopus, Web of Science e Scielo. A serendipidade, que é a descoberta acidental de uma oportunidade (Cunha, Clegg & Rego, 2015), foi identificada nos estudos pesquisados de maneira associativa com a liderança, como um aspecto relevante no planejamento da gestão organizacional.
