Se presenta aquí el caso de la búsqueda de información científica correspondiente a la sismicidad en minas como un ejemplo de la forma de proceder para búsquedas de información relevante y actualizada, que se puede aplicar en cualquier área de la ciencia. Para identificar las tendencias actuales del conocimiento científico publicado sobre sismicidad en minas, se usaron 222 referencias bibliográficas de documentos científicos publicados en el periodo 2008-2009. Estas referencias fueron obtenidas usando la base de datos HighWire Press. En este estudio se utilizaron herramientas tales como el administrador de información científica EndNote, el índice anual de revistas científicas Journal Citation Report (JCR) y la Base de Datos HighWire Press. Una vez generados los datos empíricos, fueron interpretados para identificar las tendencias actuales en el estudio de la sismicidad en minas. Esta herramienta de trabajo puede ayudar a estudiantes y profesores a desarrollar habilidades para acercarse a bibliografía relevante.
