The natural resource management to support tourism: A traditional knowledge approach in Pegunungan Arfak Nature Reserve, West Papua, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 4466-4474. Pegunungan Arfak Nature Reserve (PANR) is administratively located in three districts of West Papua, namely Manokwari, Manokwari Selatan, and Pegunungan Arfak that has diversity of protected flora and fauna. Therefore, it is crucial to study the local products for the development of ecotourism models based on local wisdom in supporting the potential economy of communities in the Pegunungan Arfak reserve. The data were obtained from direct interviews with communities around the nature reserve area through related government agencies in Manokwari District. The finding of this research highlighted that local people in Pegunungan Arfak (the Hatam-Moile sub-tribe) still use traditional knowledge for their livelihood. Most of the activities were the utilization of natural resources such as flora and fauna. They understand how to manage the natural resource to earn economic benefit along with the implementation of their traditional concept to promote the sustainability of nature. The biodiversity and social-cultural richness of local people in Pegunungan Arfak have value to be developed together with traditional ecological knowledge in sustainable nature management where local people earn benefits and nature is conserved simultaneously.

Diversity of Reophytic Fern in Wakrek Stream of Marsram Village and Wandares Stream of Sorendiweri Village of Supiori Island

The aim of this research is to study diversity of rheophytic fern along the river bank of Wakrek in Mansam Village and Wandares in Sorendiweri Village at Supiori island.  In total 20 species of this fern recorded in both study sites.  The value of Shannon-Weiner Index (H’) equals to 2.42 for Wakrek river and 2.36 as for Wanderas river. The results of T-Test for both of H’ values showed that 1.064 smaller than T-Table equals to 1.282 at P= 0.001. This indicate that no significant different of reophytic fern between Wakrek and Wandares rivers.  In terms of diversity (E value), Wandares contribute to 92.19% compare to Wakrek at 87.35%.

A major aim of this study was to examine the profile and levels of  inter specific association between kayu raja and black ants. The research was carried out using the descriptive method with ooservation technique, and sample werw purposively collected. The experimental result showed that there were positive association (mutualism), which is termed as Myrmecoxenic between Kayu Raja (E. moluccanum) and Black  ants (C. quadriceps). This association occurred  as Kayu Raja was function as a good substratum for their life. The level as association between  Kayu Raja and Black Ants (C. quadriceps) was very strong (100 %), since the Black Ants always present in Kayu Raja. It was recorded that the body length  of  the wing Black Ants and those with no wings was 9,6 mm and 6,5 mm, respectively

Reophytic Ferns Grown Along the Stream of Umberi River in Nuni Village, Manokwari

The objective of this study was to observe the morphology, anatomy and palynology of the reophytic ferns grown along the Umberi stream of Nuni, Manokwari. The Morphological characters of the ferns were recorded to identify a variety of reophytic ferns. The anatomy and palynology of these ferns were also studied to verify the morphological  characters. There were 16 types of reophytic ferns grown along the Umberi stream of Nuni, Where in 10 and 16 types were categorized as the dry reophytic landplants and torrenticolous rheophytes, respectively. All the 16-reophytic ferns comprised of 7 families (Acrostichaceae, aspleniaceae, Davalliaceae, Polypodiaceae, Pteridiaceae, Schyzaeceae and Selaginellaceae) which were classified into 2 classes (Lycopodinae and Leptosporangiae). Based on the anatomy of petiole, the structure of bundle sheath and type of stomata were not similar among the ferns. A number of annulus and the surface texture of spore also varied based on the palynological study.
