Las familias campesinas diversifican las actividades productivas para abastecer sus necesidades básicas; no obstante, debido a las problemáticas en la producción y comercialización de granos básicos han buscado producir diferentes cultivos con mayor rentabilidad para obtener mejores ingresos, como es la producción de hortalizas y frutales, en este caso el higo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la importancia de la producción de higo desde la perspectiva de los productores como alternativa de reproducción campesina en los Altos de Morelos. La metodología fue de tipo exploratoria descriptiva, se realizaron 41 entrevistas, la muestra fue no probabilística tipo avalancha. Se observó un incremento en el traslado de los cultivos a tierras con climas más calurosos; la mayor parte de los productores entrevistados diversifican las actividades; sus principales problemáticas son la falta de una organización formal, inestabilidad del precio del higo, escasez de agua y asesoría técnica. Las conclusiones fueron que la producción de higo abre la puerta para la obtención de mayores ingresos en comparación con los cultivos tradicionales; es una alternativa viable en la mejora de las condiciones de vida de las unidades familiares para garantizar su reproducción.
