Forest classification, made up by Plíva and Průša (Plíva 1971), has been using in the Czech Republic forestry since 1970. This classification is based on ecological factors of the environment. Edaphic conditions are at the first position, then climatic conditions follow (by their vertical [altitudinal] distribution mainly). These two factors form the basic construction called ecological grid (Table 1).
ABSTRACT:In total, 67 parallel plots were chosen from the database of 153 phytosociological relevés made in the Douglas-fir and parallel Norway spruce, European Beech and oak-dominated stands to find influences of this introduced tree species on the understorey layer in totally 12 localities in the whole Czech Republic territory. Douglas-fir stands influence their habitats, which was indicated by species composition changes in the ground vegetation, as well as by abundance and dominance of particular species. Douglas-fir cultivation increases species diversity of the stands, but decreases their abundance. Described differences in understorey are not so noticeable when European beech and sessile oak stands are substituted by Douglas-fir once. But even the significant phenomenon of striking nitrophilous species such as Geranium robertianum, Urtica dioica and Galium aparine occurs here. This indicates a high content of available nitrates in the humus and top-soil horizons.
ABSTRACT:The study focuses on selected forest site units on water uninfluenced sites on limestone in Bohemian Karst. The species composition of phytocoenoses, their potential production and soil properties were assessed. Studied forest site complexes are correctly determined and they provide important information from the aspect of planning and practical nature conservation management. It is necessary to specify the criteria of categoria calcaria in detail, since it is often difficult to distinguish it from categoria mesotrophica. Water retention capacity of soils, a criterion often neglected so far, presents a useful view of forest site water budget and it is a suitable criterion in forest site classification.
The results document changes in the herb vegetation of a South-Moravian floodplain forest in the period of 1978–1997. It is shown that hydrological measures strongly changed the floodplain forest in the area of the Dyje river near Lednice na Moravě. The herb vegetation in the area of the confluence of the Morava and the Dyje rivers was conserved nearly unchanged after artificial floods.
Nine plots on transect situated through the ridge of Nature Reserve (NR) Voskop (Protected Landscape Area Český kras) demonstrate local vegetation variability. Ordinations with some transformation phytosociological relevés showed possible development trends.
