Erwiinschte Besserung stellte sich friiher oder spater in drei Fiinftel der Falle ein, in einem Fiinftel blieb der Zustand unverandert, wahrend sich die Krankheit in einem weiteren Fiinftel unaufhaltsam verschlechterte. Die Besserung mochten wir nicht ohne Vorbehalt als Erfolg der Operation buchen. Sind wir uns doch der machtigen Heparationsfahigkeit des wachsenden Organismus einerseits, der Schwierigkeiten der Beurteilung therapeutischer Erfolge andererseits voll bewusst. 15 Falle endeten nach friihestens 1 Monat, langstens 5 Jahren letal, 5 davon innerhalh eines Jahres. Aus unseren Beobachtungen konnen wir schliessen, das die Tonsillectomie den Rheumatismus weder verlasslich zum Stillstand bringt, noch Rezidiven verhindert. In einigen Fallen bleibt sie aber dennoch die Methode der Wahl. Kontraindiziert ist sie nur bei schweren dekompensierten Vitien und interkurrenten Komplikationen. D i s c u s s i o n e: Dr. LEITNER (Romania) betont, dass er in den letzten Jahren die besten Heilerfolge gesehen hat nach durchgefuhrten Tonsilkctomien. Er sah bei einer ganzen Reihe von Kinderndie fruher an Rheumatismus, Vitien oder Nephritiden gelitten habenendgiiltige Heilungennach Tonsillectomien. Die operierten Falle standen Jahre hindurch in seiner Beobachtung.
Während der letzten Jahre bemühten wir uns, weitere Angaben zu sammeln über den Zusammenhang zwischen der einseitigen Ernährung, den Avitaminosen und den Funktionsstörungen der inkretorischen Organe. Im Jahre 1930-1931 prüften wir die Wirkung der C-Avitaminose auf die i'nkretorischen Organe, später untersuchten wir in separaten Versuchsreihen die Wirkung verschiedener Bakteriengifte (Diphtherie-, Tetanus-Ektotoxine und Ty-, Koli-, Staphylokokkusendotoxine) auf dieselben Organe. Auch uns sind die schweren Nebennierenveränderungen einerseits beim Skorbut, andererseits bei Diphtherieintoxikation aufgefallen. Der Rolle der Nebennieren schenkte schon MOLTSCHANOFF ('19'1 2) besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Nachdem SZENTGYÖRGYI mit seinen Mitarbeitern 1932 nachgewiesen hatte, daß die durch ihn aus den Nebennieren hergestellte Hexuronsäure mit dem C-Vitamin identisch ist, wandten wir unsere Aufmerksamkeit der Frage u, auf welche Art und Weise die Hexuronsäure (Ascorbinsäure) die Wirkung der Bakteriengifte, vor allem aber die des Di-Toxins beeinflußt. Die Frage interessierte uns um so mehr, da es den Versuchern bekannt war, daß die an Skorbut leidenden Meerschweinchen für verschiedene Infektionen empfänglicher sind. Gegen die Ausführung ähnlicher Untersuchungen bestand kein Hindernis, da es SZENTGYÖRGYI gelang, größere Mengen Ascorbinsäure herzustellen, von der er uns die entsprechende Menge bereitwillig zur Verfügung stellte.
