Palavras-chave: Frangos de corte, promotores de crescimento, probióticos, prebióticos.ABSTRACT -A study with 2,400 broilers was carried out to compare the effect of probiotics, (Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus subtilis) probiotics plus mananoligosaccharides (MOS), or growth promoter (Avilamycin) and a control diet without aditives. Diets were based on corn and soybean meal. A completely randomized experimental design was used, and the data were evaluated by analysis of variance and test of Tukey at a level of 5%. The following parameters were measured: feed intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality. It was concluded that the effect of the inclusion of probiotics and MOS in the starter diets was significantly higher for the weight gain than the other groups. The feed ratio was significantly higher at the first week as compared to the inclusion of MOS, or to the growth promoter and the control diet. In the full period the effect of the inclusion of probiotics , MOS and growth promoter was significantly higher for the weight gain than the control diet.
Abstract The main purpose of this research was to identify the best lineage of poultry among the main ones currently used today in Brazil (Ross, Cobb, Hubbard, Arbor Acres, Isa Vedette) in terms of quality of the carcass and of the bone removed parts. The experiment was carried out at Cooperativa Agrícola Consolata Ltda. (COPACOL). Five groups of 160 broilers each, with four repetitions of the same experimental conditions, were assembled. The groups were disposed as T1 (Ross), T2 (Cobb), T3 (Hubbard), T4 (Arbor Acres), and T5 (Isa Vedette). Commercial ration was used throughout the experiment. Weight gain, ration consumption, food conversion, carcass weight, viability and efficiencies were recorded and analyzed. Ross lineage showed to be superior in regard to the other ones, with significant results (p < 0.10), followed by Cobb and Hubbard lineages, the two latter ones showing no differences among them, while Isa Vedette and Arbor Acres, show a tendency for less satisfactory results.
EVALUATION OF HUMAN FACTOR ON THE PARAMETERS OF PUNCTIFORM CORROSION IN COMERCIAL COUPONS Abstract Corrosion is defined as a group of phenomena of progressive deterioration of materials due to electrochemical reactions. In certain metallic installations such processes are monitored through mass loss coupons. When this phenomenon is evidenced by the formation of cavities, with little uniform loss, it is called pitting corrosion. ASTM G46-94 (2005) and NACE RP0775 (2005) standards recommends characterizing the pitting corrosion using density, depth, size and rate of corrosion pitting. However, this is a subjective evaluation and the human factor can have significant influence on the achievement of results. In this study, commercial corrosion coupons were exposed to corrosion in immersion camera during three months having potable water as fluid. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the human factor in pitting corrosion parameters. A comparative analysis of the results was obtained by three different operators. The differences found were significant, however, such variations do not change the classification level of the coupons according to the rules.
A study with 2,400 broilers was carried out to compare the effect of the use of mannanoligosaccharides, Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall or growth promoter (Olaquindox) in the diet on broiler. Diets were based on corn and soybean meal. A completely randomized experimental design was used, and the obtained data were evaluated by analysis of variance and test of Tukey at a level of 5%. The following parameters were measured: feed intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality. It was concluded that the effect of the inclusion of mannanoligosaccharides in the diet on the studied parameters was significantly higher as compared to the inclusion of cell wall or to the control diet, but the effect was not different as compared to the inclusion of growth promoter
In general, the average geometric diameter (AGD) of ration has not affected broiler's performance in experimental situations. The objective of this experiment was to investigate if such statement is true also for commercial farms and to evaluate the possible economic benefits of using larger ration particle sizes. For that, in the present work, ROSS broilers had theis performance estimated, from the 1 st up to the 42nd day of age, fed with rations of different particle sizes. The experiment was developed during August and September of 1998, in the experimental aviary from Cooperativa Agrícola Consolata Ltda. Statistical design was of random blocks and treatment were (AGD's): 0.833, 0.703 and 1.058 mm, in the pre-initial phase; 0.829, 0.703 and 1.086 mm, in the initial phase, and; 0.818, 0.649 and 0.912 mm, in the growth phase. Treatment's AGD's treatment showed influence (P < 0.05) on the consumption of chick ration in the pre-initial phase. Few modifications were observed (P > 0.05) in the acting of the other feeding phases and in the mortality of the birds. However, the gross margin related to treatments can be increased up to 2.78%, as a result of the decrease of the grinding and/or AGD's increase.
