No final de 2019, foi identificado na província de Wuhan, na China, um novo corona vírus, nomeado pela Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS), como COVID-19/SARS-CoV-21. O objetivo deste estudo centra-se em avaliar incidência de partos prematuros em gestantes com COVID -19, como igualmente busca identificar os sinais de complicações nas gestantes infectadas por COVID 19 durante o parto. A metodologia adotada para a realização deste estudo caracteriza-se por ser um estudo do tipo quantitativo, descritivo, retrospectivo e documental, para análise da percepção da incidência de partos prematuros em gestantes que tiveram COVID-19. O estudo foi realizado em uma maternidade pública estadual, referência no atendimento à mulher gestante e ao neonato, localizada no município de Teresina, Estado do Piauí. Participaram da pesquisa 68 gestantes do estado do Piauí. Os resultados demonstraram que as participantes do estudo eram predominantemente mulheres jovens com idade entre 20 e 25 anos (29,4%), estando à maioria no primeiro trimestre da gestação (92,6%), no qual 65 (95,6%) fizeram pré-natal, dessas, 37 (54,4%) realizaram mais de 6 consultas. Os resultados atuais de múltiplos estudos avultam a necessidade de haver monitoramento adicional das grávidas, durante esta pandemia que apesar de ter amenizado exponencialmente, o vírus ainda está em circulação. Ao concluir este estudo pode-se perceber que a COVID-19 é uma ameaça para grávidas e puérperas, mas, de certa forma, é algo geralmente controlável se forem seguidos os protocolos de biossegurança e todos os cuidados necessários para com a mãe e o bebê.
