Adsorption and Selective Oxidation of H2S on Alumina Powders: in-situ UV-VIS Studies in a Differential Reactor.-Title studies in transmission and reflection mode as well as on-line GC and TPD MS are performed on pressed and powdered wafers made from industrial alumina in different microreactor cells at 400 • C. The absorption peaks at 290 nm during H2S and SO2 adsorption are assigned to chemisorbed species. The studies show that due to the low conversion of H2S by SO2 in the steady state, the use of a microreactor cell is unsuitable for realistic catalytic studies, but on the basis of species identified by in situ UV-VIS spectroscopy, individual pathways S2-2 to S2-4 (Claus reaction) and S2-3 to S2-x ( modified Claus reaction) are suggested. -(MELSHEIMER, J.; BOEHM, M. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
