Deproteinized cancellous bovine bone (Bio-Oss) was placed as a grafting material for sinus floor elevation in the right posterior maxilla. After 6 months of healing, 3 cylindrical titanium-plasma coated implants were inserted. Six months later at the abutment connection, it was realized that 1 of the implants could not be reconstructed due to unfavorable positioning. This implant was removed along with a small portion of the surrounding peri-implant tissues. The specimen was processed according to standard techniques for hard tissue histology. In both the grafted area and the previously existing area of the sinus floor the bone was primarily of lamellar structure. Intimate contact between newly formed bone and the particles of the graft was present. No overt signs of resorption of the graft particles were visible. Histomorphometric analysis revealed 63% of implant-bone contact in the zone of pre-existing bone, and 73% in the grafted zone. The area density of bone amounted to 27% in the non-grafted as compared to 28% in the grafted area. In conclusion, this case report documented that deproteinized bovine bone, when used as a grafting material for augmentation of the sinus floor, may lead to proper osseointegration of a dental implant.

Objectives The aim of this study was to translate the FACE‐Q "Rhinoplasty" module into French and validate its use for the French‐speaking population. Design "Satisfaction with the nose" and "Satisfaction with nostrils" questionnaires were used and translated. Settings We were granted permission to use the FACE‐Q rhinoplasty module by the development team. These two questionnaires constitute the rhinoplasty module of the FACE‐Q questionnaire. ISPOR and WHO recommendations were used to complete the translation process from English into French in six steps. Main outcome measurement Our goal was to obtain, not a literal translation, but rather a translation of the idea or concept. Results Each step allowed us to make changes to achieve a conceptual translation equivalent to the original version. Conclusion The FACE‐Q questionnaire is a reference in the field of cosmetic surgery outcome evaluation. The use of two validated translation recommendations, with a six‐step translation‐back translation process, leads to a French version corresponding to the original. This version is usable in a French‐speaking population.

Background Transpalpebral frontal septectomy (TFS) can be performed for unilateral frontal sinusitis drainage (into the contralateral healthy frontal sinus) or to provide access to the lateral extent of the contralateral frontal sinus. This procedure has demonstrated its usefulness in several problematic situations for the endoscopic surgeon. Objective The main objective of our study was to evaluate the feasibility of TFS. Secondary objectives were to define outcomes, early and late complications, contraindications, and failure rates of the TFS. Methods We reviewed patient demographics including age and gender, indication for frontal septectomy, prior surgeries, failure rates and necessity of revision surgery, early and late complications, and the side of the approach (ipsi- or contralateral to the frontal sinus pathology). Twenty patients who had undergone TFS were included. Patients were classified into 2 groups according to the surgical indication: group 1—TFS performed for unilateral frontal sinusitis to drain a frontal sinus in the contralateral frontal sinus; and group 2—TFS performed to provide access to the lateral extent of the contralateral frontal sinus. Scarring was assessed using the SCAR-Q questionnaire. Results TFS was performed on all patients in Groups 1 and 2 (success rate = 100%). No patients had recurrence of the pathology 6 months after surgery (0%). No patient needed revision surgery (0%). One complication (frontal hypoesthesia) was reported 6 months after surgery. Mean SCAR-Q score was 99.3 ± 2.5 (min = 91/100, max = 100/100). Conclusion TFS was feasible for all patients in this study. This procedure permits drainage of the frontal sinus and gives access to the lateral extent of the contralateral frontal sinus, without visible scarring, and with few lasting complications.
