In this "self-presentation," the author begins by reviewing the history of exchanges between French and British analysts and how the British Psychoanalytic Society has served as a "point of reference" for analysts in France. He then proceeds to recount his "notable encounters" with Sartre, Lacan, and Merleau-Ponty, which have been formative in his professional development. Attention is given to his work as the editor of the Nouvelle revue de psychanalyse and to the role of this journal in disseminating the ideas of Winnicott and other members of the British "Middle Group" in France. The paper concludes by reflecting on the author's encounters with patients, which have often been a source of inspiration for his writings, and with the inexhaustible texts of Freud.
