ABSTRACTThe objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of thirty-two experimental hybrids and four commercial hybrids of green maize at Lavras, MG. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with two replications. Seven characteristics of agronomic and commercial interest for the production of green maize had been evaluated. For each experiment, the data obtained were submitted to the analysis of variance decomposing the effect of the hybrids in commercial hybrids versus experimental hybrids. There were still made studies of correlation among the different characteristics. Among all of evaluated hybrids, there are experimental promising hybrids with performance superior to the commercial hybrids widely utilized in Brazil. Taking into account all the characteristics evaluated, hybrids AG 1051, AG 4051, GNS 03, GNS 21, GNS 23 and GNS 35 were the most promising. It is possible to reduce the number of characteristics evaluated as green maize, since there are high associations among the main characteristics evaluated for this purpose. The yield of strawed ears along and the color of the grains are indispensable characteristics in that evaluation.
MAIZE PRODUCTIVY PERFORMANCE OF SIMPLE HYBRID IN FUNCTION OF THEROW SPACING AND PLANT POPULATIONSABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to evaluate the maize productivy performance under different row spacing and plant populations, in conditions of off-season, crop year 2010, in Ipiranga do Norte, in the northern region of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The experiment was implanted on 26 January, with a simple hybrid maize Pioneer 30S31, in a conventional system, after soybean crop. The experimental design was randomized blocks in split plots with four replications. The treatments were three row spacing between rows of 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 m in main plots and four populations of 50.000, 60.000, 70.000 and 80.000 plants ha -1 in subplots. Plant populations influenced all parameters. The spacing between rows influenced the number of rows of grain, the thousand-grain weight and yield grains. The interaction was significative between row spacing and plant populations for all parameters, except for ear length. The increase in populations to 80.000 plants ha -1 , associated with a reduced spacing between rows, proved to be the most effective resulting in highest grains yield. With increasing spacing between rows, the optimum population was below 70.000 plants ha -1 in the row spacing's of 0.7 and 0.9 m between lines.
MAIZE SEED TIMES IN THE NORTH REGION OF MATO GROSSO ABSTRACT:Were not sufficient information’s about the best time sowing of corn crop, during period of maize off-season in the north of Mato Grosso. The objective of this work was to verify the productive behavior of three maize hybrids, sown in six seasons, during the "second harvest," in the north of Mato Grosso, Sinop-MT. The experiment was conducted in a typical clayey dystrophic Yellow Red Latosol between January and July 2014. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with four replicates in a 3 x 6 factorial scheme. Three commercial hybrids were used: Maximus®; Truck (Syn7316) ® and Status (Syn7205) ®. Sowing times occurred on day after sowing of date based of 01/26; respectively for datas: 01/26; 02/02; 09/02; 16/02; 23/02 and 02/03 of 2014. The variables analyzed the height of plants, stem diameter, leaf area, dry matter, relative water content and crop productivity were evaluated. At flowering, the lowest leaf water contents occurred in the plants sown between February 16 and February 23. The maize vegetative growth was the lowest in the sowing season between 09/02 to 23/02. The Hybrids Truck, Maxima and Status had a productivity difference and are more productive when sown at the end of the second crop period, between February 16 to March 2.Keywords: Zea mays L., maize off-season, dry matter, leaf area, relative water content. -The use of cover crops with potential to reduce the development of weeds in crops may represent an important tool in an integrated weed management. To do so, work to evaluate initial development of Digitaria insularis under cover crops residues on the soil surface was conducted in the 2014/2015 crop in a greenhouse. The experimental design was in randomized blocks in a (7x4) + 1 factorial arrangement, and the factors consisted in seven species of cover crops (Pennisetum glaucum, Crotalaria spectabilis, Fagopyrum tataricum, Urochloa brizantha cv. Piatã, Cajanus cajan, Eleusine coracana and Mucuna pruriens) and four levels of dry phytomass (4, 8, 12 and 16 Mg ha -1 ) plus the control treatment without cover crops, with four repetitions. M. pruriens, C. cajan e U. brizantha stood out in the suppression of D. insularis, and 4 Mg ha -1 of dry phytomass of these species were sufficient to promote an expressive reduction in the total number of plants emerged, germination speed index, dry phytomass of the shoots, leaf area, dry phytomass and root volume. For these species, from 8 Mg ha -1 of phytomass development of D. insularis was no longer detected. As for the other species, the control of D. insularis was efficient only with high amounts of phytomass (16 Mg ha -1 ). D. insularis was highly sensitive to the presence of residues on the soil surface, making cover crops cultivation an important tool for the integrated management of this species. There is a need for an increase nin efficiency and a reduction in the risk of environmental contamination in controlling weeds; this can be obtained with the development of the new techniques for the application of herbicides. The objective was to verify the efficiency of different herbicide application techniques on soybean crops (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). The experiment was conducted in a commercial area in the municipality of Sinop, Mato Grosso state. The design was a randomized block, with four replications and six treatments, namely: herbicide application with a manual backpack sprayer; application with an acrylic wool roll with 9 mm long hairs; sheep’s wool roller with 9 mm long hairs; high density polyester foam roller; weeding with a hoe and free growth (no control). The used cultivar was TMG 132. The herbicide spray used in the treatments was: glyphosate 960 g ha-1, 80 g ha-1 haloxyfop-p-methyl 600 mL ha-1 and oil, diluted in water and applied 14 and 27 days after emergence (DAE). The weed population, vegetative growth, chlorophyll content and soybean yield were evaluated. The use of the sprayer and the application with the sheep’s wool roller showed greater efficiency in weed control, but the mixture of herbicides resulted in culture phytotoxicity when applied via foliar spraying.
