The educational robotics aims to approximate what is taught to the student's reality using problem-based activities. However, the teaching is too difficult given the deficiency in teaching and student training in skills of Computational Thinking (CT). In this sense, in order to improve the teaching and learning of robotics, it was held a course with emphasis on CT applied to robotics for high school teachers working in teaching robotics in Paraíba SESI Schools. This paper presents an analysis of the effects of this course in teacher training and the results point to a significant positive effect on teaching practices that consequently reflected in student performance.
Computational Thinking (CT) has grown over the last decade, although the identification and mapping of associated abilities is an open question. This paper presents a process that applies a statistical technique to guide the mapping of CT skills into questions. During the process, network analysis was applied in a dataset of 15 CT questions that do not require prior knowledge in programming or computing. The results pointed out that the items address more than one ability and can be grouped by the common abilities. Besides, the most explored ability in the set of questions was algorithmic thinking.
Robotics workshops for basic education are often proposed for the improvement of teaching practices in different disciplines. However, the teaching of these workshops is too difficult given the deficiency of teachers and students education in Computational Thinking (CT) skills. Then, in order to improve the teaching and learning process in these workshops we propose a robotics course with emphasis on CT for High School in Paraíba SESI Schools. This work shows the statistical analysis of the effects of robotics workshop in the performance of 729 students approved in the 1st year of SESI High School. The results show that student performance was significantly improved after introducing CT on curriculum of robotics workshop.
