Abstract. Nowadays, when we have a strong presence of computers in our everyday lives the protection of electronically processed information using digital machines becomes very important. It is related to accidental formation of electromagnetic fields which distinctive features are intrinsically linked to the nature of processed information. Although many protective measures are taken -from technical to organisational -this phenomenon still poses a great threat. Therefore, methods supporting information protection against the so-called electromagnetic infiltration are still being developed. In addition, these methods would support security of data processing and perhaps replace some of the currently used solutions characterised by high costs of implementation, or a small degree of ergonomics. Conducted research deals both with an analogue VGA and digital DVI standards. The article presents the results of the research concerning possibilities of manipulating the level of video signal (black colour intensity) and its influence on the quality of displayed images, that is, on the effectiveness of electromagnetic infiltration.
Abstract:Due to the widespread use of computer equipment, electromagnetic protection of processed data is still an issue. Structurally modified commercial equipment is used to protect devices against this phenomenon. The acquisition costs of such modified devices are enormous. However, the market offers information devices with very low susceptibility to electromagnetic infiltration. Safe fonts are a new solution in the protection of sensitive information against electromagnetic infiltration processes. The use of safe fonts not only increases resistance to electromagnetic eavesdropping but also makes it impossible. These devices are computer printers that use a slat with hundreds of LEDs arranged in several rows during the process of photoconductor exposure. The solution in the form of safe fonts is a universal method that protects process information against electromagnetic penetration. Safe fonts are effective not only for printers with slat LED. The solution can also be used for the protection of analog standard VGA, digital standard DVI, and printers with one diode and two diode laser systems.
Abstract:The protection of information against electromagnetic penetration has huge significance. Different solutions, technological or organizational, are used to protect the information-limiting levels of unintentional emissions. In particular, technological solutions are implemented in commercial devices to limit levels of electromagnetic emissions.Nevertheless, such solutions cannot always be used. This is connected with the construction of these devices. Very often the devices do not have enough space on the inside to install new elements such as filters, electromagnetic shielding, and others. In the paper a new solution is proposed. The solution does not change the construction of the devices (e.g., printers, screens). The new method is based on computer fonts called TEMPEST fonts (safe fonts). In contrast to traditional fonts (e.g., Arial or Times New Roman), the new fonts are devoid of distinctive features. Without these features the characters of the new fonts are similar each other. At the output of the information infiltration channel the characters of the TEMPEST fonts limit the possibilities of recognition of characters that appear on the reconstructed image. The image is reconstructed based on an electromagnetic emission, which is correlated with the process information. In this paper the dominance of the TEMPEST fonts over the traditional fonts and Sang Mun fonts in the protection of information against electromagnetic penetration is demonstrated. The TEMPEST fonts have wider use. They are also resistant to optical character recognition programs. The use of the TEMPEST fonts in special systems allows the safe processing of data while displaying them on the screen as well as printing them on laser printers, especially on laser printers with LED slats.
