This paper explains the results of the initial stage of investigation of atmospheric corrosion on structural steel in industrial zones. Investigation is carried out on two shape profile of low carbon steel that is widely used for the construction of structures, namely sheet, and elbow. Corrosion rate measurement process and preparation were carried out based on ASTM G-50 and ASTM G-1 standards, with a total exposure time of six months in Medan Deli District, Medan, North Sumatra. The results of this initial stage of the investigation show that the average corrosion rate of low carbon steel for each profile is different, but overall it is still in the “good” category. This investigation will be continued for up to twelve months to obtain more complete data.
Abstract-Empowerment of coastal villagers as one of the government programs to support the distribution of development through the development of village potential both human and natural resources. Development of village potency especially in coastal village aim to improve village progress so that able to compete according to national development goal that is to realize prosperous society, independent and competitive. The village community empowerment program in an effort to improve the ability of people in all fields, in particular creating creativity to produce an independent and prosperous society. The ability of these communities must also be supported by the mindset of the community that can support any activities undertaken in the Pesisir Village, especially the Paluh Manan Village. Community empowerment is also a concrete manifestation to increase community participation in every development program because the key to the success of development can not be separated from the direct involvement of the community in the implementation of development. The empowerment of coastal communities through the potential of villages is also expected to be a tangible manifestation in implementing village legislation in promoting the village. Therefore, prior to developing the potential of the village, this community empowerment activity is carried out by grouping the potential of the village that can be developed, then forming a team or group at the village level who served as the controller and supervisor in the implementation of coastal community empowerment through the development of village potency.
Researchers and engineers have used cathodic protection (CP) to prevent corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC). Boundary element method (BEM) is a promising numerical technique to evaluate the effectiveness of CP on RC structures. However, some parameters that might affect the system or the potential distribution, such as mesh ratio, still need to be studied further. This paper aims to study the effect of mesh ratio on the potential distribution of RC installed CP using BEM. Simple 3D beam model of RC was used for the case study. The mesh for the model was triangular element and six variations of the mesh ratio were selected for the study. The mesh ratio obtained from the comparison between the size of the concrete element and the anode or cathode element. Simulation results show that the distribution of potential for all mesh ratios is within the protection criteria (⩽ −850 mV vs Cu/CuSO4). However, the difference between maximum and minimum potential value becomes smaller when the mesh ratio increased. Hence, it shows that the mesh ratio has an effect on the distribution of potential of RC installed CP. However, it is still tolerable since the potential within protection criteria.
The city of Medan constitutes one of the cities that has the potential for the development of freshwater fish farming, this is because it can help the economy and income for fish farmers. However, the lack of understanding of tilapia farmers on poor water quality conditions resulted in slow fish growth. Then the lack of monitoring time carried out by fish pond cultivators makes harvest yields also not optimal due to water conditions that can change at any time due to various factors, coupled with the maintenance process also causes a decrease in production yields, one of which is when infectious or non-infectious diseases occur. The objective of this program is to find out about understanding water conditions, pH, and water levels, as well as to assist the process of monitoring tilapia pond water automatically using a smartphone. The stages carried out, begin with problem investigation, problem analysis. Then design the measuring instrument and finally do the simulation/analysis of the tool. The results of this program have succeeded in making a smartphone-based pH and water level measuring instrument with simulation results showing the water level in the fish pond with an average of 2.4 and the average pH value of fish pond water being 7.1. However, in the development of further tools, it is necessary to manufacture a signal transmitter that supports the amplification of measuring devices in sending data to smartphones.
Objektif dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengamati kekuatan tarik dan distribusi tegangan pada plat baja karbon rendah yang disambung menggunakan pengelasan Menggunakan Software Solidworks ®.Pada studi ini jumlah spesimen yang akan uji berjumlah tiga spesimen.Spesimen uji merupakan lembaran plat baja karbon rendah tebal 1,6 mm yang disambung menggunakan pengelasan dengan jenis SMAW. Sebelum dilakukan proses pembentukan material spesimen terlebih dahulu diuji komposisinya menggunakan Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES).Geometri spesimen uji pada studi ini merujuk pada standar ASTM E8. Pengujian Tarik specimen dilakukan menggunakan UTM (universal testing machine) dangan spesifikasi hidrolik 5000 kgf.Selanjutnya pemodelan spesimen dibangun dan dimeshing menggunakan software solidworks 2020.Pada penelitian ini jenis elemen yang digunakan adalah elemen segitiga dan dilakukan proses adaptif mesh pada model spesimen. Proses meshing dilakukan dengan beberapa variasi panjang sisi elemen.Hasil pengujian tarik menunjukkan ketiga spesimen memiliki nilai kekuatan tarik yang tidak jauh berbeda pada kisaran ± 46.19 kgf/mm2. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan kerusakan spesimen terjadi pada area yang berdekatan dengan sambungan pengelasan.Hasil simulasi menunjukkan tegangan yang terjadi pada setiap variasi panjang sisi elemen memiliki trend nilai yang menurun, namun penurunan nilai ini tidak signifikan dan cendrung memiliki nilai yang konstant pada rentang 2,45 sampai 2,49 N/m2. Dari hasil simulasi didapat panjang sisi elemen 2 dan 4 memimiliki nilai yang paling mendekati hasil experimen. Hasil ini sesuai dengan kaidah yang berlaku dimana daerah yang disambung dengan pengelasan memiliki ketaguhan yang lebih baik dari area lainnya.
