A traqueostomia é um procedimento milenar utilizado para desobstrução das vias aéreas e higiene pulmonar. As indicações de traqueostomia modificaram-se muito ao longo dos anos e, devido à maior sobrevida de recém-nascidos prematuros e daqueles que requerem ventilação prolongada, sua utilização ainda é comum, especialmente em menores de um ano de idade. A atuação de diversos profissionais é essencial, desde a indicação da traqueostomia até a definição da possibilidade de decanulação. A assistência integral à criança traqueostomizada deve ser constituída por equipe multidisciplinar, com atuação médica, fisioterápica, fonoaudiológica e de enfermagem. A atuação da equipe é fundamental para o treinamento e orientação dos cuidadores, visando ao adequado manejo da criança traqueostomizada. A abordagem multidisciplinar e a aplicação de protocolos levam à redução da morbidade e mortalidade, redução do tempo até a decanulação e tem impacto positivo na qualidade de vida. Este artigo pretende descrever um modelo de assistência baseado na atuação de equipe multiprofissional especializada no atendimento integral à criança traqueostomizada.
