One efforts to increase crop production include improvements in cultivation systems, for examples the application of sustainable organic farming, such as use of the liquid organic fertilizers. The continuous use of liquid organic fertilizer on the soil serves to increase soil fertility. Provision of fertilizers can add nutrients to the growing media. The application of fertilizer can be in the form of organic or inorganic fertilizers. One alternative to maintain and improve crop yields is by providing liquid organic fertilizer. The purpose of this study was to provide additional knowledge related to the forms of liquid organic fertilizer and the benefits of using liquid organic fertilizer through the manufacture of Micro-Organism (MOL) banana weevil which is one form of liquid organic fertilizer that is easily obtained by the community. The activity through KKN-PPM is to provide socialization and training in making MOL of banana weevil. The result show that the community in the Walelagama District can develop knowledge related to organic fertilizers can beincrease plant productivity through the use MOL of banana weevil, whose ingredients are easily obtained so that the community can improve the existing organic farming system.
This study was aimed to find out the effect of rice pile on pest population and the quality of rice during storage; find out which pile of Bulog rice produces the populations of Rice Weevil pest the most during storage; find out which pile of Bulog rice that produces the best quality during storage. This research was conducted in the laboratory of STIPER Petra Baliem Wamena and the Faculty of Agricultural, Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta. The observation was done in 1 year, from March 2019 to March 2020. The materials and tools used are Bulog rice, rice weevil pest, cartons, plastics, digital scales, stationary, and oven. The research method applies a Completely Randomized Design. The treatments are G1: 15 Bulog rice pile; G2: 20 Bulog rice pile; G3: 25 Bulog rice pile. The results showed that: 1) The rice pile affected the pest population and the quality of rice during storage; 2) G3 condition produced more rice weevil population than others; 3) G1 condition produced the highest final weight of rice, the lowest broken rice, the highest intact rice, the lowest water content, and ash content, and the highest fat content, protein content, and carbohydrate content.
Wamena is one of the areas with the potential to develop a wide variety of food crops and plantations in large and medium quantities because it is supported by its natural conditions. Wamena, especially throughout Jayawijaya Regency and even other Regencies in the Central Highlands of Papua, are known for their organic farming. In order to support and maintain the productivity of organic farming systems, as an academic activist in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to conduct training on making organic fertilizer through the use of banana weevils known as Local Microorganism Fertilizer (MoL). This training was based on observations of farmer groups in the Wesaput district, where all farmers in the farmer groups had never used organic liquid fertilizers or inorganic fertilizers as additional nutrients to increase the growth and production of their agricultural products. Therefore we try to provide understanding and approaches to farmer groups through community service on how to make Local Microorganism Liquid Fertilizer in order to increase the yields of local farmers in the Wesaput District, especially the village of Kama. As a result of this activity, we saw that the farmer group community in Wesaput gave a good response so they asked for similar activities to be carried out again so that the farmer group community was more independent in making and using liquid organic fertilizer using the natural resources around them.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
