Seit etwa zwei Dekaden wird die frühe Kindheit als lebensbiographisch bedeutsame Bildungsphase erkannt und dem Sich-Bewegen eine zentrale Rolle in diesem Prozess zugesprochen. Es fehlt bisher jedoch in der sportpädagogischen Forschung zu diesem Thema an einer bildungstheoretischen Reflexion des Bewegungsbegriffs und es bleibt gerade im Kleinkindalter unklar, welche Merkmale entsprechende körper- und bewegungsbezogene Handlungen und Erfahrungen auszeichnen sollten, damit ihnen Bildungsrelevanz zukommt. Zur Bearbeitung dieses Desiderats werden im vorliegenden Beitrag bildungstheoretische Überlegungen in drei unterschiedlichen Feldern skizziert: Im Diskurs frühkindlicher Bewegungsbildung, -erziehung und -förderung sowie in den beiden dem Feld unmittelbar verwandten Diskursen, dem der Frühpädagogik sowie dem der Bewegungs- und Sportpädagogik. Dabei werden insbesondere mit Blick auf den aktuellen Diskurs um Bildung als Transformation und Handeln in Ungewissheit jeweils mögliche Anschlussstellen für einen Begriff frühkindlicher Bewegungsbildung herausgestellt und anschließend in einem Vorschlag für eine entsprechenden Begriffsbestimmung zusammengeführt.
