AbstractIn spite of the rejection to traditional gothic forms that some Latin American writers and critics have put forward, the modern development of the genre is present in topics, structures and characters of Es un hecho que la literatura gótica ha sido marginada del canon culto del estudio literario hasta muy recientemente. The fact is that Gothic has not always been a respectable genre, not even in England, its country of origin, and most readers today would fi nd it onerous to take up the original novels (or romances) of the Gothic genre because of their naiveté and creaking machinery.
