El objetivo del trabajo de investigación fue evaluar la utilidad de la amilasa y lipasa sérica en el diagnóstico ycontrol de tratamiento de pacientes con dolor abdominal agudo de origen pancreático y no pancreático que acudieronal Hospital NORTHOSPITAL de Quito durante el periodo comprendido entre octubre a diciembre del 2015y que presentaron valores elevados de amilasa y lipasa sérica. Las variables edad, sexo, antecedentes patológicosy familiares, motivo de consulta, signos y síntomas, pruebas de laboratorio e imagen, diagnóstico y tratamientofueron obtenidas de las historias clínicas. Para el tratamiento estadístico se emplearon herramientas como: media,frecuencia, sensibilidad, especificidad, valor predictivo positivo (VPP), valor predictivo negativo (VPN), curvasROC, prueba t para muestras relacionadas y ANOVA de un factor. Utilizando pruebas estadísticas de rigor se evidencióque la lipasa sérica presenta una mayor sensibilidad (90,91%) frente a la amilasa (63,3% de sensibilidad)para el diagnóstico de pancreatitis. Ambos parámetros bioquímicos ofrecen un 100% de especificidad. La amilasay lipasa sérica se elevan en el curso de una pancreatitis aguda y en otras patologías no pancreáticas, por lo tantose precisa de otros exámenes de laboratorio y pruebas de imagen para logar un diagnóstico eficaz.
La zoonosis es considerada un problema de salud pública a nivel mundial y una de las enfermedades con mayor incidencia es la salmonelosis ya que el microorganismo sobrevive a condiciones ambientales extremas y por su fácil transmisión mediante el contacto directo con animales y alimentos contaminados con materia fecal. Los reservorios zoonóticos más importantes son los perros (Canis lupus familiaris) y las palomas domésticas (Columba livia) por su cercana convivencia con el ser humano y porque excretan el patógeno hasta tres meses posteriores a la infección. El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la prevalencia de Salmonella spp. en heces caninas y de paloma doméstica en el Parque “La Carolina”. Se recolectaron 100 muestras de heces de cada animal anotando las características macroscópicas más relevantes seguido de un análisis microbiológico adecuado. Los resultados mostraron una prevalencia del 3% en heces caninas y 5% en heces de paloma doméstica. El análisis estadístico de las características macroscópicas como factor de riesgo en la determinación de Salmonella spp. no tiene una correlación significativa. Se concluye que la existencia del microorganismo en la materia fecal de perros y palomas representa un grave problema de salud por la eliminación del patógeno y la potencial contaminación de agua y alimentos.
