Word and text analysis has become an alternative method to examine social and psychological problems when other common methods could not access the internal workings of a participant's psyche. This study shows that text analysis, as an alternative method, is capable to identify important psychological aspects contained in the song lyrics written by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) with regard to his strategic role as a country and political leader. Three main aspects are identified: emotion, achievement, and harmony. The lyrics of 23 Indonesian songs written by SBY have been gathered for the purpose of analysis. Three studies were carried out to analyze the psychological aspects contained in SBY's song lyrics. Firstly, the author applied algoritma kata (AK-word algorithm) to identify the degrees of valence and arousal in each song using the word count method. Secondly, the author applied analisis lirik keseluruhan (ALKthe whole lyric analysis) to assess the valence and arousal in every song by means of human judgment. Third, the author applied expert judgment (EJ) to analyze the dominant words that emerge in all song lyrics. This study shows that SBY's song albums have consistently shown a positive valence and an increasing level of arousal from 2006 to 2014. In addition to that, EJ method shows that those dominant words represent SBY's two most prominent psychological aspects: achievement and harmony.
Violence on the internet often occurs in Indonesia due to several aspects, such as political reason and entertainment purpose. It has emerged due to the rapid digital movement, which produces numerous digital applications that can widen the connection among humans from various backgrounds. Sometimes, different values and perceptions are the factors that incinerate violence on the internet, particularly verbal violence. In this study, we apply the term cyber aggression (CA), a form of structured and unstructured behavior to harm others online, to explain this phenomenon. The emergence of this new-kind of behavior must be addressed by the government and other stakeholders in managing social and political stability that requires intergroup relation. This study aims to explain two specific predictors that can empirically understand CA from the psychological perspective, namely, moral emotions and frequency of social media usage. Result shows that one dimension of moral emotion—guilt—is a significant predictor to inhibit CA. Moreover, shame precisely encourages people to conduct CA.
Covid-19 has turned into a global health issue since April 2020 where WHO finally decided the spread of the virus as a global pandemic that affected more than 200 countries. Previous works have found that trust toward the government is important in adapting to the pandemic situation. However, what type of trust is more important? This study aims to investigate the role of different domains of trust towards Covid-19 treatment conducted by the Indonesian government as a predictor for the perception of the new normal situation. The result shows that higher trust towards government will lead to optimism in facing the new normal situation, in which perceived integrity and benevolence become the significant predictors toward optimism. However, we did not find the same pattern for the competence domain of trust.
