This study sought to assess the perception of nurses with respect to cancer patients under palliative care. It is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach conducted with nurses from a hospital attending cancer patients under palliative care located in the city of João Pessoa, State of Paraíba. The study included nine nurses who worked in the hospital. The empirical material was collected using the technique of semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The interpretative analysis of the interviews led to the definition of three categories: Improving the quality of life through the alleviation of pain and suffering; Palliative Care: a multi-professional study of terminal patients and their families in the grieving process; Communication: a source of dignity in the terminal care process. The conclusion reached is that the study revealed that the nurses involved acknowledge the importance of the multidisciplinary team. It enables the nurses to reflect on the use of communication as an essential element of care for patient and family under palliative care. It is hoped that the data obtained may foster further research on the topic.
A constipação é um distúrbio muito comum em pacientes oncológicos com doença avançada, podendo causar dor, distensão abdominal, náuseas e vômitos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar evidências disponíveis na literatura sobre as ações de cuidados paliativos para o paciente oncológico, em uso de opioides com constipação intestinal, considerando-se que são as ações decorrentes das necessidades de cuidado que podem contribuir para o controle desse sintoma. A presente investigação trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura e, para selecionar as publicações científicas, foram acessadas as bases de dados da Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, especificamente LILACS e SciELO. Os critérios de inclusão adotados foram: artigos que retratassem cuidados paliativos ao paciente com constipação intestinal decorrente do uso de opioides; que estivessem indexados nas bases de dados supracitadas; que fossem publicados na língua portuguesa, no período de 2002 a 2012 e cujos resumos e textos estivessem disponíveis online, na íntegra. Foram excluídos os artigos com acesso restrito. Ao final da busca, encontraram-se 20 referências, contudo somente sete se enquadravam nos critérios de inclusão desse estudo. Os artigos inseridos nesta pesquisa ressaltaram que a constipação é um sintoma bastante comum em pacientes oncológicos com doença avançada em uso de opioides. Essa revisão mostrou que a adequada avaliação, o tratamento nutricional, o uso racional de medicamentos laxativos e antagonistas de opioides, assim como novos recursos dietoterápicos, como o uso do fungo Agaricus sylvaticus, podem promover o adequado controle desse sintoma, evitando complicações e procedimentos invasivos.
Introdução: A prática baseada em evidências é uma abordagem que preconiza a utilização de resultados de pesquisas na área clínica, e a revisão integrativa é um de seus instrumentos. Objetivo: Sintetizar as contribuições de estudos que apontem evidências de ações de enfermagem para pacientes com ferida neoplásica sob cuidados paliativos. Método: O estudo foi norteado pelo método da revisão integrativa. Para selecionar os artigos, foram utilizadas duas bases de dados: Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde e Scientific Eletronic LibrayOnlin. Resultados: Conforme os critérios de inclusão pré-estabelecidos, foi obtida uma amostra de sete artigos. Após a análise do material obtido, os resultados apontaram que, entre as ações de enfermagem direcionadas à pacientes com ferida neoplásica sob cuidados paliativos, destacam-se o alívio dos sintomas, a promoção de conforto e de bem-estar e a melhoria dos aspectos físicos, psicológicos, sociais e espirituais. Conclusão: No contexto dos cuidados paliativos, a enfermagem deve proporcionar uma assistência humanizada e singular, a fim de minimizar desconfortos e problemas diversos gerados pela doença oncológica, promovendo melhoria da qualidade de vida desses pacientes.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the understanding of the elderly about their rights as hospitalized individuals and to find out about their rights by health professionals.
Palliative care is aimed at people with diseases without perspective of cure or terminally, aiming to provide a better quality of life. This study aims to investigating the discourse of nurses about their understanding of palliative care to elderly patient with cancer and identify strategies used by nurses to promote palliative care to the elderly cancer patient. It is an exploratory research of a qualitative nature, carried out with thirteen nurses from a philanthropic institution in the city of João Pessoa, through a questionnaire. The empirical material was subjected to thematic content analysis, resulting in three categories: design of nurses to assist the elderly in Palliative Care: promoting comfort and minimizing the suffering, the importance of palliative care in humanized care to the elderly with cancer and strategies for the Promotion of Care of the Elderly with Cancer. Participants highlighted the palliative care as essential in the humanization of care, ensuring the dignity and quality of life among the elderly with cancer without possibilities of cure, adding such assistance, the family.
Objective: Investigating the understanding of medical residents about palliative care and mourning. Method: an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted in august 2013 with 18 residents of a university hospital in the city of João Pessoa / Paraiba / Brazil. To enable the collection of data, was used an instrument containing relevant questions to the study objective. The analysis was performed using the Technique of Content Analysis. Results: From the analysis of the empirical material, two categories emerged: "Care that can provide relief of pain and suffering with an emphasis on the quality of life and promotion of dignity" and "Mourning is the feeling of loss on the death of a loved dear". Conclusion: It is considerable that the study demonstrated the understanding of resident physicians about palliative care and mourning, and support further researches on the theme
Objective: To investigate the experience of professionals in a Home Care Service with regard to the therapeutic actions promoted to the patient in terminal illness. Results: From the analysis, it emerged two categories: "Therapeutic actions directed to the biological needs of the terminally ill to promote comfort and quality of life" and "Therapeutic actions promoted to meet the psychosocial and spiritual needs of terminally ill". Method: Conclusion:The interventions highlighted by the professionals were essential to meet the biological, psychosocial and spiritual needs, and reduce the suffering of the terminally ill stigma in the home context.
