Giob fisheries in Kayoa is specialized to exploitat halfbeak fish. This activitiy is undertaken intensively and no management effort until now. The research objective were to determine the priority of management strategies for sustainable giob fisheries and to formulate the implementation of the selected management strategy for giob fisheries. Data was collected by using interviews and questionnaires. The data analysis used AHP (Analysis of Hierarchy Process). The result showes that the priority of management strategices for sustainable giob fisheries in Kayoa, South Halmahera, was the supervision of exploitation of halfbeak resources. The implementation concepts of monitoring the priority strategy are: setting the fishing time, supervisie the illegal fishing, supervisie the catch processing, supervisie the marketing network, and socialize the impotance of region income. It is necessary to develop a local marine sanctuary in Kayoa, South Halmahera which is in charge of overseeing the utilization and management of halfbeak fish resources as the main target of giob.
OF TUNA FISHERIES MANAGEMENT BASED ON ECOSYSTEM APPROACH IN MOROTAI ISLAND DISTRICTS. This study aims to determine the level of sustainability of each domain or aspect in the EAFM and determine the level of sustainability of tuna fishery activities in the Morotai Island Districts. Methods of data taking was carried out with survey method by means of interview/questionnaires and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Determination of samples quantity used purposive sampling. By the EAFM approach analysis, the average composite value of the entire domain was range of 60-80 which reflects the status and performance of yellowfin tuna fisheries resources in Morotai Island Districts was good in its level of sustainability by applying EAFM principles. However, there were still a number of indicators in each domain that had a low score so efforts are needed to improve management.
Increase of human activities on coastal area in Central Weda Sub-District has caused degradation of coastal ecosystems. Even though coastal ecosystems have an essential role in marine ecology, such as coral reefs and mangrove forests, they are sometimes undermined by economic or commercial interests. This study aimed to determine density and cover percentage of mangrove forests and coral reefs in Central Weda Sub-district, North Maluku. Data collection on coral reef ecosystem components was carried out by applying georeferenced photo-transect and line transect quadrat techniques. While for mangroves, data collection included species diversity and tree/canopy cover percentage. Study result showed that based on lifeform percentage of coral reefs, most of the study areas were in a good category with 23.95% coverage, moderate condition 39,5%, and poor condition 36.6%. The coral reefs in good and moderate conditions were found at location having relatively low human activities. Whereas percentage of mangrove cover from all stations ranged from 78,39 to 78,76% with Important Value Index ranging from 106,79% to 158,32%.
Pelagic fishery business in Ternate Sea are mainly based on FADs fishing operations. Increase of intensive fishing activities will also increase the pressures on local pelagic fish resources of Ternate Sea in the future. So far, there has been limited scientific information related to the fish caught by local fishers. The aim of the study was to investigate length distribution, gonad maturity level (GML), and catchable size of fishes caught around FADs. The research was conducted in August 2020 in Ternate. The research method was a survey research by collecting samples of fish caught from gill nets and hand lines for total 30 fishing trips. The study results showed that the catch consisted of mackerel scads and yellow scads. The mackerel scads caught by gill nets were between 13-26 cm in size and dominated by the 19-20 cm size class, while fishes sizes caught by hand line were between 14-27 cm which were dominated by the 18-19 cm size class. Yellow scads caught with both gill nets and handlines showed the same length range of 12-23 cm, which was dominated by the size class of 18-19 cm. Mackerel scads caught with gill nets and handlines were dominated by fish in GML II (47%) followed by GML III (32%). GML of yellow scads caught with gill nets was dominated by GML III by 75%, while for fishes caught by hand line the percentage of GML III is 68%. The mackerel scads caught with gill nets and handlines were dominated by the non-catchable size category (100% for gill nets and 98.79% for handlines). On the other hand, all yellow scads caught with both gill nets and handlines are entirely (100%) of catchable size.
Based on information from fishermen and fish entrepreneurs, about 95.5% of the catch landed in the Bacan fishing port is stored in the air blast freezer (ABF) which is targeted for regional and exportsmarkets, while the remaining 4.5% is sold locally. The actual condition shows that the ABF has limited capacity. Furthermore, the need for ice blocks and diesel fuel (BBM) cannot be full filed as the ice factory and fuel station (SPDN) inside the port was not able to meet the current demand. As a result, fishermen have to buy from outside fishing port .In order to improve the port service, development program supported by scientific investigation on existing port performance is required. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the level of utilization and satisfaction of users of cold chain facilities and SPDN in PPP Bacan. The research was conducted at PPP Bacan, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, from August to September. Data were collected within 2 weeks, from 5 to 19 September 2020. The results showed that the utilization rate of ice factory facilities, ABF, and SPDN had exceeded the optimal limit, while the cold stroge was not optimal. All stakeholders (skippers, fishermen, and fish buyers) expressed their dissatisfaction with the service of the ice factory facilities, ABF, and SPDN, while the cold storage facilities were very satisfied. Keywords: Evaluation, utilization, satisfaction, cold chain, coast fishing port, Bacan.
