Work accidents according to Heinrich 88% are caused by human factors so that they can be prevented, so improving the behavior of workers becomes very important. The study was conducted on cadets post-sea practice, against the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The research method was carried out quantitatively by distributing questionnaires to 150 people (75 cadets of nautica and 75 cadets of technics / machines). The results showed that the understanding of cadets on the function and usefulness of PPE when on board was relatively high (90%-90.8%). However, the use of PPE on board is relatively low (83%-84.8%). So it can be concluded that the understanding of cadets against PPE is high enough but still reluctant to use it completely and correctly. The reason they did not use, because PPE is not suitable to use due to poor maintenance. For that to the management of the ship to carry out routine maintenance, so that PPE can be used to the maximum extent possible.
Ships have been preferable transportation modes in archipelagic countries like Indonesia because of their capability of transporting heavy loads. Indonesia has a great potential in maritime business and employment. However, accidental rate on board is also very high. Therefore, human behaviors during the activities on the sea become determining factors. This study discussed the use of PPE by student officers during accidents on board. The study used a quantitative method by questioner dissemination to 60 student officers (30 from nautical study and 30 from engineering study) from different grades. The study found that 47 respondents had suffered accident related to PPE, 11 related to improper PPE, 6 accidents due to the absence of helmet, 18 accidents due to the absence of safety shoes, 4 accidents due to the absence of goggle, and 8 accidents due to the absence of glove, resulting in a broken finger accident. This study recommended the company to socialize the PPE required by the law to prevent accident at work.
Road traffic safety education through campaigns and counseling has often been carried out by Politeknik Keselamatan Transportasi Jalan (PKTJ) Tegal as an educational institution that focuses on safety. The campaigns were given to students who are in kindergarten to high schools/ vocational high schools and also the general public by Computer Based Application (CBA). The most difficult campaign was done for Junior high school students. This study aims to make CBA as a medium of campaign in improving understanding of traffic safety. The method used is an experiment with One Group Pre test-Post test. Data collection technique was Purposive Sampling. The research samples were 82 students who come from three different junior high schools. Data collection used test methods (Pre-test and Post-test). The results show that there was an increasing result from i.e; from the low category to high, so that it can be concluded that CBA improves understanding of traffic safety in students of class VIII SMP N 1, N 4 and N 5 Ciamis.
Passenger buses have been one of favorite means of transportation in Indonesia due to its affordability and flexibility. Intensity of human activities during the trip in the buses have a potential of causing indoor air pollution (polusi udara dalam ruang; PUDR). The indoor air pollution has an impact of 1000-time bigger than outdoor air pollution (polusi udara luar ruang; PULR) on lung. This study aimed to find out indoor air pollution rate of non air conditioned buses using an approach to biological agent pollutant source. The study applied an analysis restricted to microorganisms persistence as one of the sources of the indoor air pollution. The media were placed in different parts of the non AC buses. This study revealed that fungs were found in the non AC buses. They became contaminants and developed pathogenic bacteria that caused air pollution.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
