Foot odor is one of the things that is quite disruptive to appearance, the 2014 American Podiatric Medical Association studied a significant increase in the prevalence of foot odor in the community. One of the causes of foot odor is the presence of bacteria, especially the bacteria Bacillus Subtilis. This study used the ethanol extract of beluntas leaf (Pluchea Indica L.) as the active ingredient because the ethanol extract of beluntas leaf has been widely used and proven to have antibacterial activity besides the ethanol extract of beluntas leaf has a high enough compatibility to be used as a cosmetic product, including spray preparations. The spray form was chosen because of its easy and pleasant use. This study aims to make a foot odor control product in the form of a spray with 3 concentrations of beluntas leaf ethanol extract, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% to study the antibacterial activity using the well diffusion method. The results showed that the ethanol extract of beluntas leaf can be formulated into foot spray preparation with the results of the organoleptic examination of the three formulas are clear liquid, and yellow slightly green color. The pH of the preparation is in the range 5.10 -5.92. In formula 3 (F3) with a concentration of 1.5% beluntas leaf ethanol extract, it has a strong bacterial inhibition zone with an average inhibition zone diameter of 12.5 mm.
Research has been carried out on testing the quality of characteristics chitosan from cuttlefish bone waste with variations in deacetylation temperature. The purpose of this study is to identify the potential of cuttlefish bone as a raw material for producing chitosan and the effect of variations in deacetylation temperature on the quality of the chitosan. The tests of water content, ash content and chitosan solubility values. Solubility test showed that the three samples were soluble in 2% acetic acid. The results of the water content test with variations in deacetylation temperatures of 110 0C, 120 0C, 130 0C were 0.3467%, 0.1063% and 0.0135%, respectively. The ash content of chitosan is 0.2627%, 0.0125% and 0.0060%. The results of testing water and ash content showed a decrease in the value linear within increasing temperature.
Phytochemical screeningS. cumini extract was screened qualitatively to identify the presence of secondary metabolites, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, polyphenols, and steroids/triterpenoids. 10
Kata kunci : gelling agent, carbopol 940, sifat fisik, Ocimum sanctum L. ABSTRACT Hand sanitizers were effective and inexpensive product that can reduce of microorganims on the skin. Many hand sanitizer have contents up to 60%-95% ethanol and isopropyl alcohol, but using alcohol in hand sanitizer can cause health risks effect. The aim of this work was to determine the effects of gelling agent Carbopol 940 on physical properties of formulation gel hand sanitizer. The concentration that used for the Carbopol 940 gelling agent are 0,5%; 1%; 1,5%. The test of physical properties includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersive ability, and adhesion The results of this research on the physical properties gel hand sanitizer of basil essensial oil, showed that the increasing of gelling agent consentrasion, makes the gel getting faded, more thicker, increase of viscosity, adhesion and decrease of dispersive ability. Based on the physical properties test, (F2) with 1% concentration of Carbopol 940 is the optimal formula it caused by it suitable all the parameters of the physical properties of gel. Keywords : gelling agent, carbopol 940, physical properties, Ocimum sanctum L.
