Abstract-This paper presents results of a large pilot project among Croatian primary and secondary schools focused on digital maturity of schools. It explores relationships between indicators that influence the overall digital maturity level of a school with the main aim to identify the main drivers of digital maturity. It also reveals key steps in the development of the Framework for Digitally Mature Schools in Croatia and the instrument for assessing digital maturity of schools. The instrument evaluation involved 151 primary and secondary schools in Croatia that were assessed against maturity levels. Descriptive statistics is used to identify and explain correlations between 38 indicators of digital maturity of schools. Results obtained from the instrument show that 50 percent of schools in Croatia are in the initial phase of maturity and 43 percent of them are e-enabled which in respect to 5 different maturity levels corresponds to levels 2 and 3 respectively. An on-line system developed for this purpose, besides it features the instrument itself and enables schools to benchmark between themselves, identifies critical indicators for each school that require improvement in order for school to make progress against maturity level.
EPortfolio offers a new philosophy of teaching and learning, giving the learner an opportunity to express oneself, to show one’s past work and experience to all the interested parties ranging from teachers to potential employers. However, an integral model for ePortfolio implementation in academic institutions that would take into account three different levels of stakeholders: 1. Individual (student and teacher); 2. Institution; and 3. Employer, currently does not exist. In this paper the role of ePortfolio in academic environment as well as the context in which ePortfolio operates is analyzed in detail. As a result of the comprehensive analysis that takes into account individual, academic institution and employer, a meta-model of ePortfolio usage in Lifelong Learning is proposed
Abstract-This paper discusses the effect of a gamified learning system for students of the master course on Web Design and Programming performed at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics. A new set of usability metrics was derived from web-based learning usability, user experience and instructional design literature and incorporated into the questionnaire which consists of three main categories: Usability, Educational Usability and User Experience. The main contribution of this paper is the development and validation of a questionnaire for measuring the usability of a gamified e-learning course from students' perspective. Usability practitioners can use the developed metrics with confidence when evaluating the design of a gamified e-learning course in order to improve students' engagement and motivation.
Abstract-In this paper we will present several examples of different maturity levels of ePortfolio usage at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb, Croatia. Firstly, we will illustrate basic in-class uses of ePortfolio in which students are introduced with the ePortfolio concept, self-reflection, self-monitoring and knowledge management. The primary goal of this phase is to show students how to record, plan and improve their professional skills in order to facilitate their preparation for the labour market. This phase is also aimed at recording and showcasing of students' work and self-assessment. The second example of ePortfolio usage in this paper concerns self-guidance monitoring at the postgraduate level, where it is used to monitor the activities and progress of PhD students as well as to simplify communication between supervisors and doctoral candidates. In addition, by using the ePortfolio pattern, doctoral students are encouraged to start planning their careers as scientific researchers and experts. Finally, we introduce an example of using ePortfolios for academic human resources management as part of institutional quality assurance. For that purpose, a career development plan was developed to collect and monitor the work and progress of academic staff (both young researchers and teaching assistants).
This paper further explores and empirically evaluates Critical Success Fac-tors (CSFs) for successful implementation of the next generation of ePortfo-lio systems in academic institutions. Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) is used to empirically evaluate the nature of CSFs and to determine their relationships. The identified factors were found to be critical for the successful implementation and deployment of ePortfolios. Moreover, three-level hierarchy between CSFs has been revealed and presented in the final ISM model. In the end, the main drivers for successful implementation of ePortfolio in educational settings were detected and their influence on the remaining CSFs was explained.
