Tendo por horizonte compreender a formação da obra de Graciliano Ramos, o cerne deste ensaio é a apresentação da revista Novidade (Maceió, 1931). O estudo dessa revista revela como o grupo nordestino ao qual Graciliano pertenceu se manifestou contra chavões na arte e na política. O romancista publicou na Novidade o capítulo24 de Caetés e as crônicas "Sertanejos", "Chavões" (inéditas), "Milagres" e "Lampião". Desde esses textos, Graciliano formalizou em toda a sua obra, de singular rigor estético e ético, o impasse da educação/das letras num mundo de violência, tema central da revista. Having as purpose to understand the formation of Graciliano Ramos' work, the focus of this essay is the presentation of the magazine Novidade (Maceió, 1931). The study of this magazine discloses how the northeastern group which Graciliano belonged to took a stand against platitudes in the art and politics.
