SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Fibromyalgia is one of the most important problems, especially for women. Studies point to disorders in the sexual functions of fibromyalgia patients that reduce their quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate sexual dysfunction and its relationship with disease severity and depression in women with fibromyalgia. METHODS: This study included 98 female patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia and 54 healthy women. The Female Sexual Function Index was used to assess sexual dysfunction. Fibromyalgia disease severity was measured with the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire. Hamilton Depression Scale was filled in to evaluate the depression status of the patients. RESULTS: According to the female sexual function index data, female sexual dysfunction was found in 78 (79.6%) patients with fibromyalgia and only in 12 (22.2%) controls. When the female sexual function index scores of fibromyalgia patients with and without depression were compared, patients with additional depression had lower female sexual function index scores, and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.002). In the correlation analysis, the female sexual function index score showed a significant negative correlation with the hamilton depression scale (rho=-0.235, p=0.020) and fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (rho=-0.215, p=0.033) scores. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the high prevalence of sexual dysfunction in female fibromyalgia patients and the significant correlation between sexual dysfunction and both disease severity and depression.
Background/Aim: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally, with an estimated 18.6 million deaths each year. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has positive effects on reducing the mortality and morbidity of CVD, so there is a growing interest in this field. The aim of this study was to analyze the top 50 cited articles in the field of CR. Methods: The Web of Science (WoS) database was searched for articles published between 1986 and 2021. A record was made of the following information for the bibliometric analysis: article title, year of publication, number of authors and their names, number of citations, citation index, journal of publication, impact factor, type of article, and source of funding. The altmetric attention score (AAS) was recorded using automatic software calculation. Results: The majority of articles were published in the journal “Circulation” (n=14) and the “Journal of the American College of Cardiology” (n=8). The country with the highest number of articles was the US (n=27), and the most cited author was P.A. Ades. Studies evaluating exercise-based rehabilitation, key components of CR, and secondary prevention were among the top cited articles. In terms of AAS, in addition to the titles mentioned, mobile health services that rely on communication technologies have also received attention. Conclusion: This study provides useful information for researchers interested in CR, including trends, topics of interest in the field, and potential research collaborations. It is intended to guide future, more comprehensive, and in-depth studies on CR.
Aim: Lateral epicondylitis is the most common cause of lateral elbow pain and dysfunction, mainly caused by repetitive gripping or wrist extension during various activities. Although also known as tennis elbow, lateral epicondylitis often develops as a work-related condition and therefore poses an important public health concern. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of laser in the treatment of patients diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis. Material and Method: Patients who received low-intensity laser therapy (LILT) treatment and patients who received placebo LILT while waiting for extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) treatment with the same diagnosis were included in the study. A total of 60 patients in two groups of 30 were included in the study. The patients who received LILT treatment constituted the treatment group (n=30), and the patients receiving placebo LILT constituted the control group (n=30). VAS for resting and resisted wrist extension, HAQ, PRTEE-T pain, function, and total scales were used to measure patients' pain status and response to treatment. Results were compared by analyzing patient files and recorded data. Results: A total of 48 (80%) subjects were female and 12 (20%) were male. The mean age of the control group was 47.8±7.4 years, and the mean age of the treatment group was 45.7±8.5 years. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, gender, and occupational distribution (p>0.05). In our study, the group treated with LILT showed statistically significant improvement in all parameters (VAS, HAQ, PRTEE) we investigated compared to the control group (p
Objective: Lateral epicondylitis is a disease with unknown etiology that influences 1-3 % of society. The major symptom is a kind of pain which originates from common extensor tendon, spreads out distally and increases with activities. Generally, it depends on using muscles excessively while sport or working and comprises of macroscopic and microscopic ruptures in common extensor origin and especially extensor tendon that are formed while strong grasping and eccentric contractions with recurrent, rapid movements of wrist. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of shock wave therapy (ESWT) in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis. Methods: We evaluated patients with lateral epicondylitis who were admitted to the treatment program and who had not yet received treatment. Sixty patients were studied in two groups of 30s. Patients applied treatment (1000 shots/18 hz frequency/1.8 bar point and 1000 shots/21 hz frequency/1.4 bar peripheral) total 2000 shots once a week for three times. Socio-demographic properties, dominant hand, affected elbow, existence of trauma or repetitive movements and the comorbid diseases, duration of symptoms, triggering factors and clinical examination results created the data. By the assessment of symptoms and signs visual analog scale, algometer, Health Assessment Questionnaire and PRTEE-T scores were evaluated. Results: At the end of the study, the ESWT-treated group showed statistically significant improvement in all variables compared with the groups (p<0.05). Conclusion:ESWT in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis showed a positive effect on symptoms and clinical signs. At the end of this study we concluded that ESWT therapy is effective in the conservative treatment of lateral epicondylitis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
