The behavior of six uniaxial compression columns is investigated. Specimen featured an initial section of (120 x 200) mm2, a final section of (200 x 200) mm2 and height of 1.600 mm, strengthened on the tensile and compression sides with plaster or not. Adherence between new and old concrete, and cracking pattern was satisfactory. Although coated columns showed the same behavior to their respective non-coated ones even when concrete area was reduced by approximately 20%, problems consisted in the crushing of the reinforced concrete layer immediately prior to the rupture of the columns. This strengthening proved to be more adequate when undertaken at the columns´ compressed zone and may be executed through conventional procedures with or without mortar coating layer.

The use of steel fibers as addition improves several mechanical properties of concrete, whose tensile strength and resilience are of great interest for designs of structures subjected to impact loads, such as military facilities, nuclear power plants, bridges and overpasses. However, there are few studies that assessed the effects of adding steel fiber on reinforcements of reinforced concrete. To assess these effects, four concrete beams under impact loads were tested, with reinforcements and different amounts of steel fibers being monitored. The results showed a better performance of beams with fibers, presenting lower strains on reinforcements and cracking.

A pesquisa refere-se a análise das manifestações patológicas presentes no conjunto residencial habitacional, localizado no município de Marabá/PA, com cerca de 1500 (mil e quinhentas) habitações populares. Para o desenvolvimento do estudo de caso, utilizou-se a metodologia proposta por LICHTENSTEIN (1985), dividida em três etapas: levantamento das manifestações patológicas; diagnóstico e a definição da conduta a ser empregada. Durante a primeira etapa, a etapa de vistoria, foi observado que as principais ocorrências estão ligadas à deficiência no detalhamento dos projetos e incompatibilidade entre os mesmos; falhas durante a execução e utilização incorreta de materiais. Por fim, foi verificado que a prevenção e a manutenção são as formas mais eficazes contra a ocorrência de manifestações patológicas nas estruturas.
