It is not always apparent to the K–12 administrators that collaboration with community colleges will help address the issues that demand the priority attention of school leaders.
Produktionserweiterungen und neue gesetzliche Rahmenbedingungen führten dazu, dass in einem chemischen Produktionsgebäude die Abluftreinigungsanlage erneuert werden musste. Aufgrund der einfachen Betriebsweise und des geringen Energieverbrauches sollte erstmalig ein Bio-Tricklingfilter eingesetzt werden, in dem die Luftschadstoffe mit Hilfe von unterschiedlich spezialisierten Mikroorganismen zu Kohlendioxid, Wasser und Salzen abgebaut werden. Um abschätzen zu können, wie sich die wechselnde Abluftzusammensetzung, überwiegend bestehend aus 1,2-Dichlorethan, Isopropanol, Epichlorhydrin und Styrol auf die Abbauleistung auswirkt, wurde vor Ort eine Pilotierung durchgeführt.Wie in der Abbildung zu sehen ist, wurden die organischen Verbindungen nach einer gewissen Adaptionszeit bei Abbauraten zwischen 30 ± 40 g/m 3 h im Mittel zu über 90 % abgebaut. Ungeachtet der Anwesenheit von Isopropanol und anderen leicht abbaubaren Verbindungen wurde auch das schwer zugängliche 1,2-Dichlorethan, das etwa 35 % der Schadstoffbelastung ausmacht, während der ganzen Versuchsdauer im Mittel zu 95 % abgebaut. Kurzzeitig auftretende Spitzenbelastungen, welche die Pilotanlage mangels Pufferkapazität praktisch unvermindert durchströmten, sollen zukünftig mit einem vorgeschalteten Glättungsfilter ausgeglichen werden. Mit dieser Konzentrationsvergleichmäûigung sowie der hohen Abbauleistung können die behördlichen Anforderungen hinsichtlich der maximalen Frachten, die täglich in die Atmosphäre gelangen dürfen, erfüllt werden, auch wenn konzentrationsbezogene Grenzwerte verfahrensbedingt kurzzeitig überschritten werden. Dank dieser Gesamtbetrachtung geht Ende 2002 mit dem Bio-Tricklingfilter ein neuartiges System in Betrieb, das sich durch hohe ökologische und ökonomische Effizienz auszeichnet.
