The results of experimental studies of the tissues of teeth with periodontitis, using the Raman spectroscopy method, are presented in this work. Spectral changes in the tissues of teeth with periodontitis were identified, and the results can be used for the correction of treatment of this disease in dental practice. Criteria for the noninvasive diagnosis of periodontitis, based on changes in tooth enamel spectral properties, were developed.
The objective of this work was to use Raman spectroscopy to assess hard dental tissues after professional oral hygiene treatment and curettage. Spectral changes were identified, and the discriminant model of the specific changes of intensity of the Raman lines (i.e., of dentin, cementum, and enamel), before and after the dental procedures, was developed. This model showed that 6 weeks after the procedures, the hard dental tissues did not have differences and, thus, provided similar conditions for bio-film and dental plaque formation, tissue repair, and new attachment to the surface of the root.
Subject. Currently, there are many methods for restoring the crown of the tooth using various stump pin designs, but they are not always effective when prosthetics are removable dentures. Therefore, overlapping prostheses using locking elements and dental implants are becoming increasingly popular in the clinic of orthopedic dentistry. Locking fasteners can reduce pressure on the mucous membrane, increase functional efficiency by transferring pressure to the abutment teeth, which positively affects the stabilization and retention of orthopedic structures. The goal is to improve the quality of orthopedic treatment of partial absence of teeth with the help of overlapping prostheses based on spherical attachments, dental and collapsible dental implants. Methodology. Orthopedic treatment was performed for 27 patients (12 men and 15 women) aged 59 to 74 years, who were divided into two groups: control (10 people) and main (17 people). For patients of the control group, dental treatment was carried out using partial removable laminar prostheses using generally accepted technologies, the main one using advanced technologies for the manufacture of removable dentures and collapsible dental implants. Results. The use of removable orthopedic constructions based on teeth and dental implants using an advanced manufacturing technology (RF Patents No. 2593349, 2708828, 2588488 for an invention) made it possible to carry out dental treatment of patients with partial absence of teeth. An assessment of the quality of hygiene of removable dentures. Conclusions. The effectiveness of prosthetics depends on the rational choice of the orthopedic design and the use of dental implants, as well as the correct assessment of the periodontal condition of the abutment teeth and the determination of contraindications for the manufacture of cast stump pin inlays with spherical locks.
Background. Contemporary dental diagnosis should supplement clinical examination with instrumental diagnostic techniques. Raman spectroscopy has become widely adopted due to high spatial resolution, non-invasiveness, the lack of strict requirements and ease of sample preparation.Objectives. A qualitative assessment of enamel mineral and organic composition dynamics using Raman spectroscopy.Methods. Raman spectroscopy was used as primary research method. The trial bench consisted of a Shamrocksr-303i high-resolution digital spectrometer with built-in DV420A-OE cooled optical detector (spectral range 200–1200 nm), RPB-785 optic fibre scattering probe integrated with LuxxMaster LML-785.0RB-04 laser source with wavelength 785 nm.Software spectrum processing was performed with Wolfram Mathematica 9. Spectra were denoised with a median filter (5 points), the approximating line (fifth order polynomial) of autofluorescent component was determined in 700–2200 cm-1 range using an iterative algorithm and then subtracted to receive isolated Raman spectra.Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) of data was performed with the IBM SPSS Statistics package. Results. The assay included 28 teeth, with 14 extracted for orthodontic indications and 14 — for chronic periodontitis. Spectral dental enamel dynamics has been established in periodontal disease and after the in-office bleaching procedure. The evidence obtained can be applicable in dental practice to verify patients at risk of periodontal disease by interpreting the tooth enamel spectral properties, as well as prior to in-office bleaching.Conclusion. We demonstrate high efficiency of Raman spectroscopy for qualitative assessment of the mineral and organic enamel composition dynamics in various settings. Raman spectroscopy is confirmed effective and versatile in various aetiologies. It was successfully applied to diagnose periodontitis by changes in the organic and mineral enamel composition and evaluate enamel after in-office bleaching.
The results of studies on the assessment of new biomaterials from juvenile teeth for further use in surgical dentistry for bone tissue repair are presented in this work. The comparative assessment of these materials and brefomatrices used in dentistry was carried out. It was shown that spectral properties of new biomaterials from juvenile dentin were similar to the spectral properties of brefomatrices from cortical tissue according to the developed discriminant model of the characteristic changes of Raman line intensities. The calculated accuracy of the discriminant model was 82.7 ± 3.2%.
In a significant number of patients suffering from partial absence of teeth, computed tomography determines a deficiency of bone tissue in the area of missing teeth. This in turn complicates the placement of dental implants. The modern dental market is widely represented by various osteoconductive and indifferent materials that allow restoring the missing volume of bone tissue. An analysis of the literature data demonstrates the highest efficiency of osteoconductive materials. Their most effective representative is Kollpan-L®. Target. To determine the features of the clinical use of Kollapana-L® during closed sinus lift. Materials and methods. Patient M., aged 54, complained of a partial absence of teeth in the upper jaw. When conducting a computed tomography study, it was revealed the need to use the osteoplastic material «Kollapan-L»® during the operation of a closed sinus lift. Conclusion. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the use of osteoplastic material «Kollapan-L»® allows to reduce various postoperative complications (pain, swelling), and also promotes accelerated regeneration of bone tissue in the area of the defect.
The results of the research of enamel of periodontitis-affected teeth before and after open curettage are presented in the work. The Raman spectroscopy method was used as an evaluation method of curettage influence on tooth enamel. Chemometric analysis of the Raman spectra of tooth enamel before and after curettage was made. Spectral changes of tooth enamel were detected. It was found that after the procedure of open curettage spectral changes occur in tooth enamel related to the changes in mineral composition and organic matrix forming.
