A tourist destination needs to be professionally managed by involving all the stakeholders in order to get the maximum benefit, especially for the local community. In general, there are three factors that motivate the community to support the development of tourism; they are economic, social, and cultural factors. This article discusses the factors that motivate the local people to support the development of tourism at Serangan village. This research used qualitative and quantitative data collected by distributing questionnaires to and conducting an in-depth interview with those who are knowledgeable of the development of tourism at Serangan village. The research samples included 200 respondents determined using the accidental sampling technique. The data were analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis technique to confirm the factors motivating the local community to support the development of tourism. The result of this research shows that the economic, social, and cultural factors have significantly contributed to the attempts made by the community to support the development of tourism; the economic factor is the most dominant one followed by the social and cultural factors, meaning that the economic factor is the main reason why the local community supports the development of tourism at the village. Therefore, it can be suggested that the government should empower the local people to participate in the development of tourism through elucidation, training and education programs to make them competitive in fulfilling the job vacancies available at the village. Thus, the local people need to prepare themselves earlier to improve or develop their knowledge and skill to win the competition.
______________________________________________________Tri-Hita-Karana (THK) is one of the values of the Balinese people. It is believed that the inclusion of local culture into the language learning of Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) for foreign learners is not only good in enhancing students' cultural knowledge but also in adding interest and challenge to the teaching and learning process. Appropriate teaching methods are in need to teach THK values to foreign students, so that the learners understand THK cultural values well. This study is aimed at finding the appropriate method to teach Bahasa Indonesia to foreigners with the inclusion of THK values. This study was conducted with ten foreign students who learned Bahasa Indonesia in Politeknik Negeri Bali, in 2016 Darmasiswa class. Question and observation were employed to collect the data. These methods were further complemented with participatory speaking techniques. The data collected then analyzed with coherence method. 96.7 % of the participants responded that the method used for teaching THK is very appropriate to support the process of teaching and learning of Bahasa Indonesia for foreign students. Based on the study of the responses given by the foreign learners of Bahasa Indonesia, it could be summarized that 96.7 % the respondents indicated that the methods which incorporated THK were very appropriate to support the teaching and learning process of Bahasa Indonesia for foreign students. This study also revealed that there were some methods which were more appreciated by the learners, such as: guessing pictures, running dictation, observation, video documentation, immersion, and debate. Amongst the methods, immersion was the most preferred, because through this method, learners could directly feel and experience the cultures of Balinese daily life.
Hospitality Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Bali (PNB), hadn't implemented integrated learning practice optimally. The aim of this research was improving the learning process method as an integrated practice learning model involving three courses (Food Production, FB Service, English for Restaurant) in the same topic. This study was conducted on the forth semester of Hotel Study Program as the sample used in this research. After the random sampling was selected two classes as research samples, those were IVA class as an experiment group and IVB class as a control. Thus the samples could be determined according to the number of students in each class as many as 26 people. The application of integrated practice learning had an effect on the achievement of student competency in waiter/s occupation at Hotel Studies Program. The result of statistical test showed that there was a significant difference of competency achievement between integrated learning practices with partial practice learning students groups. It's suggested to the management Hospitality Study Program to encourage and to facilitate the lecturers especially of core subjects to apply integrated learning practices in order to achieve the competency.
The 21st century has witnessed significant changes in the context of language teaching or learning as the world is increasingly globalized and digitalized. Therefore, students in vocational colleges are demanded to learn the skills to be able to survive and succeed in today’s world as both a local and global citizen. The objective of this study was to implement the role-plays’ technique of video recording to improve the student’s speaking ability. In conducting the research, there were two components expected to be improved, namely the teaching-learning process to be conducive and the students’ speaking scores. By applying classroom action research, data were collected in two cycles of learning. The result of the speaking test revealed that the students had made some progress, which was shown by the increase of students’ average speaking scores. The improvement of the scores was also followed by the increase of students learning interest and motivation in a conducive teaching-learning atmosphere.
