Unlike the other forms of investment strategies, foreign direct investment (FDI) involves the long-term commitment in the host country. FDI determinants are complex and multi-dimensional phenomena that result from both macro-economic and firm strategy considerations. The main objective of the present research is to review the empirical studies on FDI determinants in order to find out what motives international corporations are pursuing since the FDI policies and nation-specific business environment are directly affecting international corporations’ activity involvement. The literature and document review research method is adopted for this research, and the research is refined by including only papers that contained empirical studies on FDI determinants. Research has been carried out using secondary data drawn from a diverse pool of materials, including books, journals and other credible reports from international institutions. This research concludes the evidence of the mixed results on such a linkage.
This paper aims to determine the importance and challenges of the reform and transition towards the International Public Sector Accounting Standards’ (IPSASs’) accrual accounting and its implementation in the public sector in Kosovo. A survey obtained primary data from a considerable representative sample of officials from budget organizations and institutions and members of publicly owned enterprises (POEs) and professional societies. The study analyzed the collected data using descriptive statistics, correlation and the Chi-Square and Kruskal–Wallis H tests. The reform contributes significantly to a better decision-making process and the use of public funds. It reflects the true long-term implications of policy decisions and therefore helps governments demonstrate accountability in the use of public funds. Despite the identified challenges, the study justifies the suggested reform in Kosovo. The findings emphasize its importance for improving accountability, transparency and financial management and building public confidence in information and the country’s macro-fiscal sustainability position.
The determinant of the credit risk of banks in a developing country have limited data to analyze and limited participation in literature. Determinants of credit risk are very important in order to define the non-performing loans (NPL) in Kosovo banking systems. Even though banking system in Kosovo is the newest in region, it is comparable with banking systems to all places in regions (Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.).The main purpose of this paper is to classify some factors that influence credit risk in commercial banks in Kosovo. The research includes seven commercial banks for the period 2006–2015. Data analysis and interpretation are processed with Statistical Program for Social Sciences SPSS v.19.0.The effect of variations in the determinants of credit risk exposure is based on using a multivariate panel regression model. Our empirical results suggest that a significant relationship exists between credit risk and the following variables: Profitability (ROE and ROA), Inefficiency (IE), Loans to deposit ratio (LDR), Credit growth (CG) and Deposit rate (DR), while variables of Solvency (SR) and Credit rate (CR) are not statistically significant in terms of credit risk.
This paper examines the use of financial analysis as a strategic tool in SMEs. Empirical data are collected from 303 SMEs in the Republic of Kosova, operating in production, trade and service sectors. The aim of this study is to assess the extent to which the business financial analysis is employed in the sampled enterprises and to determine whether there are differences in the usage of it, within small and medium-sized enterprises and sectors. The results show that Kosovan SMEs greatly use financial analysis as a strategic tool. Moreover, significant differences are found between small and medium-sized enterprises regarding its usage and no significant differences among production, trade and service sectors. This paper contributes to the existing scientific literature, especially in the strategic management field. Additionally, this paper will likely contribute to decision makers’ increased use of business financial analysis as a strategic tool in their enterprises.
Abstract. Responding to globalization of the international business environment the companies need to draw and present reliable and comparable audited financial statements, and consequently there is a vital need to implement international financial reporting standards. Foreign investments in Kosovo as a new developing country are growing. The purpose of this paper is to consider the role of audited financial statements in encouraging foreign investment in the private sector in Kosovo. To examine this issue, we have analysed three determinant factors in presenting financial statements to the foreign investors: auditor's report, auditor reputation and relevance of auditor's findings. The results of this study indicate that these variables have a positive effect on promotion of foreign investment. These results also revealed that audited financial statements are very important for Kosovo companies in order to ensure an equal worldwide treatment.
