This paper presents a method for the fabrication of inorganic porous hollow fibers, using ecologically benign feed materials instead of organic solvents and harmful additives. Our method is based on ionic cross-linking of an aqueous mixture of sodium alginate, inorganic particles, and a carbonate. The mixture is spun into an acidic coagulation bath, where the low pH triggers the dissociation of the carbonate into multivalent cations and carbon dioxide. The multivalent cations cross-link the alginate, thereby consolidating the 3D structure and arresting the inorganic particles. In a subsequent thermal treatment the polymer is removed and the particles are sintered together. Adequate gelation requires a sufficiently low pH of the acid bath and a sufficing buffering capacity of the acid. In addition, to facilitate thermal treatment, it appears to be crucial that the acid has a conjugated base with limited propensity for complexing cations. The environmentally-safe and sustainable lactic acid and acetic acid are shown to be convenient acids. The fibers prepared via our method have outstanding properties, such as high mechanical strength, homogeneous morphology, and sharp distribution of small pores. In addition, they are prepared using sustainable chemicals such as lactic acid and calcium carbonate.

This work was conducted to study the effect of selective adsorption on removal of sulfur  compounds  from  Iraqi  heavy  naphtha  from  Al-Dura refinery  by using  molecular  sieve (13X)  in a fixed-bed column and  it was be run out at 1.5–6.0h-1 LHSV, 15–30 gr  weight of molecular sieve (13X), 600–1650ppm sulfur concentration in the feedstock ,  the adsorption  temperature  was  25oC and 40oC.  The best operating conditions for removing sulfur compounds was 3.0 h-1 LHSV, 20 gr molecular sieve bed weight and 25oC temperature, where the sulfur content in heavy naphtha was reduced from nearly 600 ppm to less than 1 ppm (by weight). Regeneration steps was thermally took place by hot air flow in a range from 16.66 – 25 liter / min and temperature range from 200–350oC, the best desorption conditions for (85.8%) weight percent removing was at 16.66 liter / min air flow and 350 oC.

The present research was conducted to reduce the sulfur content of Iraqi heavy naphtha by adsorption using different metals oxides over Y-Zeolite. The Y-Zeolite was synthesized by a sol-gel technique. The average size of zeolite was 92.39 nm, surface area 558 m 2 /g, and pore volume 0.231 cm 3 /g. The metals of nickel, zinc, and copper were dispersed by an impregnation method to prepare Ni/HY, Zn/HY, Cu/HY, and Ni + Zn /HY catalysts for desulfurization. The adsorptive desulfurization was carried out in a batch mode at different operating conditions such as mixing time (10,15,30,60, and 600 min) and catalyst dosage (0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8,1, and 1.2 g). The most of the sulfur compounds were removed at 10 min for all catalyst types. The maximum sulfur removal was 56% using (Ni+Zn)/HY catalyst at 1.2 g dose for 24 h. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm of sulfur removal were studied, and results indicated that desulfurization adsorption kinetic was 2 nd order, and Temkin and Freundlich models were the best representation isotherm.

The hydroisomerization of n-decane was studied on SAPO-11 catalyst. Catalyst of 0.25wt.%Pt/SAPO-11 was prepared locally and used in the present work. The hydroconversion performed in a continuous fixed-bed laboratory reaction unit. Experiments of ndecane isomerization were performed in a temperature range of 200 to 275°C,LHSV range of 0.5-2 h-1 , and hydrogen to decane mole ratio of 2.1-8.2. The results show that the n-decane conversion increases with increasing temperature and decreasing LHSV , the maximum conversion 56.77 % was achieved at temperature 275°C and LHSV of 0.5 h-1. The kinetic of n-decane isomerization was also studied and the reaction was first order. The kinetic analysis also showed that the activation energy equal to 61.1137 kJ/mol.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of operating variables on, the percentage of removed sludge (PSR) obtained during re-refining of 15W-40 Al-Durra spent lubricant by solvent extraction-flocculation treatment method. Binary solvents were used such as, Heavy Naphtha (H.N.): MEK (N:MEK), H.N. : n-Butanol (N:n-But), and H.N. : Iso-Butanol (N:Iso:But). The studied variables were mixing speed (300-900, rpm), mixing time (15-60, min), and operating  temperature (2540, oC). This study showed that the studied operating variables have effects where, increasing the mixing time up to 45 min for H.N.: MEK, H.N.: n-Butanol  and 30 min for H.N.: Iso-Butanol increased the PSR, after that percentage was decreased; increasing the mixing speed for all the studied solvents up to 700 rpm increased the PSR, after that the percentage was decreased, while increasing the operating temperature decreased the PSR for all the solvents.
