Se examinan las articulaciones entre una gama heterogénea de actores del agronegocio, así como los acomodos y resistencias de campesinos en el ámbito territorial, con el fin de identificar tanto los impactos de la reestructuración política neoliberal, como las alternativas y retos que se les presentan a los segundos. El análisis se realiza en la región Frailesca, del estado sureño de Chiapas en México. En el primer apartado se revisa la configuración histórica de la región Frailesca, destacando algunos procesos específicos que le otorgaron su cualidad de región agrícola. Después se describe el cambio territorial impulsado por el proceso de reestructuración política y económica neoliberal, en particular en el periodo de fines de la década de los ochenta y la de los noventa. Se discuten los acomodos, resistencias y alternativas instrumentadas por pequeños productores y campesinos. Degradación de suelos, debilitamiento de los ingresos y pobreza, son los rasgos distintivos de la agricultura regional. Aun en esta situación, los diversos productores se muestran capaces de desplegar iniciativas y respuestas que, si bien no contrarrestan las formas de dominio de amplia escala, sí representan estrategias de resistencia y adaptación al modelo agrario, y les permite mejores condiciones de subsistencia en ese contexto.
El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar morfológicamente cinco poblaciones de maíz nativo y estimar sus rendimientos, empleando prácticas agrícolas sin uso de agroquímicos. El estudio se realizó en el año 2021, en el municipio de Cintalapa, Chiapas, dentro del campo experimental del Centro Académico Regional de la Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro. Las cinco poblaciones de maíz nativo fueron proporcionadas por campesinos de diferentes regiones de la entidad, con previo consentimiento informado. Las prácticas agrícolas consistieron en uso de extractos vegetales y jabón potásico con extracto de neem (Azadirachta indica) para la prevención y combate de plagas. Para la fertilización se aplicó lixiviado de lombriz roja californiana (Eisenia foetida) y guano de murciélago en su presentación comercial. Los caracteres morfológicos se evaluaron con un análisis estadístico descriptivo considerando: días de floración masculina y femenina, alturas de planta y mazorca, longitud y diámetro de la mazorca, y número de hileras por mazorca y número de granos por hilera. El rendimiento de grano se estimó mediante el peso de la mazorca cosechada de una muestra aleatoria de 20 plantas por población. Se identificaron diferencias numéricas de las variables estudiadas, lo que demuestra una diversidad genética existente. Las poblaciones que presentaron mayores rendimientos fueron Campeón y Olotillo, con 5,37 y 4,4 ton ha-1 (± 1,24), respectivamente. Los datos aportan información para diseñar estrategias de conservación de maíces nativos con manejo libre de agroquímicos.
Este libro muestra sin eufemismos «los destrozos» causados por el modelo productivo y económico global que se impone casi ineluctablemente en todas las regiones del orbe. Al mismo tiempo recoge las alternativas construidas desde lo local que podrían llamarse metafóricamente «los recovecos verdes» de La Frailesca, donde se constata la puesta en marcha de innovaciones tecnosociales, por las cuales se puede eliminar la dependencia artificial a los insumos químicos con una serie de técnicas orientadas a considerar la biología como factor productivo del suelo, las cuales, a su vez, pueden suprimir las cargas económicas y ambientales innecesarias asumidas por los productores. En esta obra los coordinadores se posicionan con una acción concreta para remarcar la importancia de dar voz, de tomar en cuenta y de poner en valor lo que están haciendo los agricultores, ganaderos y la población de los territorios rurales para hacer posibles los procesos de reconfiguración agroecológica en esta fecunda región llamada La Frailesca, «el granero de Chiapas».
“Actores sociales y alternativas de coordinación para el desarrollo territorial” es una obra que reúne una serie de estudios sociales con un enfoque territorial, lograda gracias al esfuerzo colectivo de estudiantes y docentes de posgrado de tres instituciones académicas del Sur y Occidente de México. El libro ofrece al lector información detalladas de investigaciones empíricas que relatan las experiencias de actores locales que se interrelacionan y coordinan para confrontar diversas problemáticas que impone la globalización capitalista; ya sea a través de mecanismos que buscan propiciar formas alternativas de desarrollo o generar vías alternativas al desarrollo para mejorar las condiciones de vida de ciertos grupos sociales, o bien para reivindicar saberes y epistemologías -del sur- que son escasamente reconocidas por la racionalidad moderna. Propone, con tales experiencias, comprender los procesos de configuración de los territorios desde una mirada que no solo observa cómo actores hegemónicos imponen instituciones, reglas y normas que rigen la vida socioeconómica y productiva, sino también cómo los actores locales, desde un ámbito cotidiano, las adaptan, resisten e incluso rechazan.
Este artículo tiene el objetivo de examinar los factores socioeconómicos que incidieron en los habitantes de un área natural protegida en Chiapas, México, para que adoptaran prácticas de reforestación en el marco de un proyecto interinstitucional que impulsó la restauración de sus predios forestales afectados por el huracán Bárbara en el año 2013. Con la información recopilada en el trabajo de campo entre 2014 y 2016, a través de observación directa y datos de 51 encuestas, se realizó un análisis cualitativo y estadístico con el apoyo de un modelo Logit. Los resultados muestran que la disposición de las personas a reforestar disminuye a medida que la ganadería representa su principal ocupación. Además, se revela que la población más proclive a reforestar es aquella que tiene mayor participación en actividades forestales, que es motivada por factores intrínsecos y reside de manera permanente en el lugar. Se concluye que los aspectos socioeconómicos ligados a las actividades productivas locales son factores que inciden en la decisión a reforestar.
