Drinking green tea has a certain preventive effect on reducing the risk of gastric cancer, particularly for long-term and high-dose consumption. Drinking too high-temperature green tea may increase the risk of gastric cancer, but it is still unclear whether high-temperature green tea is a risk factor for gastric cancer. Further studies should be performed to obtain more detailed results, including other gastric cancer risk factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption and the dose of the effective components in green tea, to provide more reliable evidence-based medical references for the relationship between green tea and gastric cancer.
In this paper, using a bubble function, we construct a cuboid element to solve the fourth order elliptic singular perturbation problem in three dimensions. BackgroundSeveral studies indicate that the statistical education model and level in medical training fails to meet the demands of clinicians, especially when they want to understand published clinical research. We investigated how study designs and statistical methods in clinical studies have changed in the last twenty years, and we identified the current trends in study designs and statistical methods in clinical studies.MethodsWe reviewed 838 eligible clinical study articles that were published in 1990, 2000, and 2010 in four journals New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of the American Medical Association and Nature Medicine. The study types, study designs, sample designs, data quality controls, statistical methods and statistical software were examined.ResultsSubstantial changes occurred in the past twenty years. The majority of the studies focused on drug trials (61.6%, n = 516). In 1990, 2000, and 2010, there was an incremental increase in RCT studies (74.4%, 82.8%, and 84.0%, respectively, p = 0.013). Over time, there was increased attention on the details of selecting a sample and controlling bias, and there was a higher frequency of utilizing complex statistical methods. In 2010, the most common statistical methods were confidence interval for superiority and non-inferiority comparison (41.6%), survival analysis (28.5%), correction analysis for covariates (18.8%) and Logistic regression (15.3%).ConclusionsThese findings indicate that statistical measures in clinical studies are continuously developing and that the credibility of clinical study results is increasing. These findings provide information for future changes in statistical training in medical education.
Objective:
To explore the scope of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its relationship to the major dietary patterns among an urbanised and semi-urbanised Tibetan population in transition from nomadic to settled settings.
Design:
Cross-sectional.
Setting:
Community-based.
Participants:
Urbanised and semi-urbanised Tibetan adults (n 920, aged 18–90 years), who have moved from nomadic to settled living environments, answered questionnaires on food consumption frequency and lifestyle characteristics through structured face-to-face interviews and completed anthropometric measurement and metabolic biomarker tests.
Results:
MetS prevalence was 30·1 % in males and 32·1 % in females. Low HDL-cholesterol and central obesity were the leading metabolic abnormalities (86·3 and 55·8 %, respectively). Three major dietary patterns – urban, western and pastoral – were identified. Beef/mutton was an important food group for all three identified dietary patterns. In addition, the urban dietary pattern was characterised by frequent consumption of vegetables, tubers/roots and refined carbohydrates; the western pattern was characterised by sweetened drinks, snacks and desserts; and the pastoral pattern featured tsamba (roasted Tibetan barley), Tibetan cheese, butter tea/milk tea and whole-fat dairy foods. Individuals in the highest quintile of urban dietary pattern scores were found to be at a higher risk of developing MetS (OR 2·43, 95 % CI 1·41, 4·18) and central obesity (OR 1·91, 95 % CI 1·16, 3·14) after controlling for potential confounders.
Conclusions:
MetS was common among urbanised and semi-urbanised Tibetan adult population in transition. The urban dietary pattern, in particular, was a risk factor for MetS. To prevent MetS, nutrition interventions need to be tailored to address the variety of local diet patterns to promote healthy eating.
Background: We aimed to explore the association between periodontitis and lung function in the United States. Methods: The data was based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009 to 2012. Periodontitis was defined following the CDC/AAP (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/American Academy of periodontology) classification. Lung function measurements included forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), andFEV1/FVC ratio. Linear regression and binary logistic regression were used to explore the association between periodontitis and lung function measurements. Restricted cubic spline was used to assess the dose-response relationships between the mean attachment loss (AL), the mean probing depth (PD) and spirometry-defined airflow obstruction (FEV1/FVC <0.7).Results: A total of 6313 adults aged 30 years or older were included. Compared to those with non-periodontitis, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of airflow obstruction for moderate and severe periodontitis were 1.38 (95% CI: 1.01 to 1.75) and 1.47 (95% CI: 1.06 to 2.01), the β coefficients of FEV1 for moderate and severe periodontitis , the β coefficients of FVC for moderate and severe periodontitis were -100.96 (95% CI: -155.08 to -46.85) and -89.89 (95% CI: -178.45 to -1.33), the β coefficients of FEV1/FVC for moderate and severe periodontitis were -0.01 (95%
