The development of digital holography is anticipated for the viewing of 3D images by reconstructing both the amplitude and phase information of the object. Compared to analog holograms written by a laser interference, digital hologram technology has the potential to realize a moving 3D image using a spatial light modulator. However, to ensure a high-resolution 3D image with a large viewing angle, the hologram panel requires a near-wavelength scale pixel pitch with a sufficient large numbers of pixels. In this manuscript, we demonstrate a digital hologram panel based on a chalcogenide phase-change material (PCM) which has a pixel pitch of 1 μm and a panel size of 1.6 × 1.6 cm2. A thin film of PCM encapsulated by dielectric layers can be used for the hologram panel by means of excimer laser lithography. By tuning the thicknesses of upper and lower dielectric layers, a color-selective diffraction panel is demonstrated since a thin film resonance caused by dielectric can affect to the absorption and diffraction spectrum of the proposed hologram panel. We also show reflection color of a small active region (1 μm × 4 μm) made by ultra-thin PCM layer can be electrically changed.

IntroductionDespite the use of a multidisciplinary treatment approach, the mortality rate of hemodynamic instability due to severe pelvic fracture remains 40–60%. Several recent studies have shown that preperitoneal pelvic packing (PPP) was useful for achieving hemostasis in these patients in the acute phase. However, few studies have examined postoperative complications. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate clinical outcomes and wound infections of PPP in these patients.Materials and methodsWe retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of 62 patients with hemorrhagic shock due to pelvic fracture between March 2011 and May 2017. Excluding four patients (two with other major hemorrhage sites and two who experienced cardiac arrest in the emergency room), the patients were divided into PPP (n = 30) and non-PPP (n = 28) groups according to PPP application. Clinical outcomes including early-stage mortality, transfusion amount, and surgical site infection (SSI) were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe overall mortality rate was 48.3% and the mean Injury Severity Score (ISS) was 39 ± 9. The 30 patients in the PPP group had a significantly lower hemorrhage-induced mortality rate than the 28 patients in the non-PPP group (16.7% vs 50%, p = 0.019), although both groups had similar patient characteristics (age, ISS, and initial serum lactate level). Independent factors associated with hemorrhage-induced mortality were PPP and the requirement of packed red blood cells for 4 h. In the PPP group, SSI occurred in 5 of 25 (20%) patients.ConclusionsPPP may be considered as a hemostatic modality for hemodynamic instability due to pelvic fracture because it reduces the hemorrhage-induced mortality rate. However, wound infections after the procedure should be considered.

Abstract. DNA methylation change is known to play a crucial role in early gastric carcinogenesis. The present study aimed to identify and validate the correlation between differentially methylated regions (DMRs) and the subtypes of early gastric cancers (EGCs). Illumina Infinium methylation assay (IIMA; 450K BeadChip kit) was performed on fresh tumor and non-tumor tissues of 12 EGCs to screen the methylation status of 450,000 CpG sites. To evaluate the significance of DNA methylation in each histologic subtype, pyrosequencing assay (PA) was performed on 38 EGCs (18 intestinal-, 12 mixed-and 8 diffuse-type) using 12 genes selected from the screening. Between tumors of the intestinal-type (n=6), and diffuse-(n=4) plus mixed-types (n=2), 169 regions showed significant differences (intensity >3,000, Δβ >0.2) in IIMA. Hierarchical clustering using the 169 DMRs revealed distinct separation between the two groups. In PA using 12 selected genes from the IIMA results, the aberrant methylation statuses of DVL2 (p=0.0186) and ETS1 (p=0.0222) were significantly related to diffuse-and mixed-types rather than the intestinal-type, while C19orf35 (p=0.019) and CNRIP1 (p=0.0473) were related to the diffuse-type rather than intestinal-type, and GAL3ST2 (p=0.0158) and ITGA3 (p=0.0273) were related to the mixedtype rather than the other two types. The methylation of other genes, CLIP4, XKR6, CCDC57, MAML3 and SDC2, was related with age, tumor location, or Helicobacter infection rather than the histologic subtype. Aberrant DNA methylation of certain genes may be independently involved in each histologic subtype of EGC. Furthermore, mixed-type EGCs may be a distinctive histologic subtype based on the different subset of DMRs compared to those of other subtypes. Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is not itself a premalignant condition, however, rare synchronous or metachronous multiple primary malignancies have been reported. Herein we present a case of synchronous transverse and sigmoid colon cancers and a case of metachronous rectosigmoid colon and gastric cancers in patients with SIT.A 66-year-old male with SIT was referred for a two-month history of hematochezia. Synchronous colonic tumors were found on the proximal transverse and sigmoid colon. The patient underwent open total colectomy and was discharged without incident. A 71-year-old female with rectosigmoid colon cancer and SIT underwent laparoscopy-assisted low anterior resection. Fourteen months after the surgery, the patient developed a single hepatic metastasis and underwent hepatic segmentectomy (S6). Forty-six months after laparoscopy-assisted low anterior resection, the patient developed metachronous early gastric cancer on the antrum and underwent radical subtotal gastrectomy with gastroduodenostomy. The patient is doing well without recurrence for 28 months.
