Stereoselective 7α-Hydroxylation of 3β-Acetoxy-δ5-steroids by Fe(PA)3/H2O2/MeCN.-The ferric picolinate-hydrogen peroxideacetonitrile system is reported to be a convenient oxidant for the stereoselective 7α-hydroxylation of several steroids (I). The reaction gives the 7α-hydroxy steroids in moderate yield together with 7-oxo (IV) and epoxysteroids (V) and (VI) the 7β-hydroxy isomers being obtained in traces only. This oxidizing system represents a useful model for the cytochrome P-450 oxidation.-(KOTANI, E.; TAKEYA, T.; EGAWA, H.; TOBINAGA, S.; Chem. Pharm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
