Background: Hypertensive disorders are common complication occurring during pregnancy responsible for maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. Though the condition is on decline, still stands a public health problem. The aims and objectives of the study were to know the clinical presentation among PIH patients and to find out foetal outcome among patients with PIH.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted over period of 1 year in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, tertiary care health facility at GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Valsad. A total of 64 pregnant women with PIH were enrolled in this study with inclusion-exclusion criteria. Necessary information such as Socio-demographic information, detailed clinic and obstetric history, clinical examination, investigations and foetal outcome was note by using preformed performa. Data were entered and analyzed by using MS Excel and Epi Info software.Results: Majority of PIH mother is belonging to age group of 18-26 years (51.56%), PIH is more prevalent among nulliparous (57.81%). Among PIH mother 48.44% had lower abdominal pain, 18.75% had vomiting/epigastric discomfort followed by headache (12.50%), convulsion (10.94%) etc. 53.12% of PIH mother delivered low birth weight babies, 7.81% are IUGR. 18.75% of babies were required NICU admission with 1.56% of neonatal death.Conclusions: Pregnancy induced hypertension is a common medical disorder associated with pregnancy. We noted that PIH is more prevalent in younger age groups and nulliparous mothers. PIH lead to a various clinical manifestation some of this may use as early recognition of PIH. PIH also lead to increase adverse foetal outcome. Thus fetal morbidity and mortality can be reduced among PIH patients by early recognition and institutional management.
Background: Gujarat Medical Education Research society started GMERS medical college and tertiary care Hospital in Valsad since last 4 years. As civil Hospital is converted in to tertiary care hospital and many of the departments running in different buildings so, searching the concern OPDs is difficult for patients, waiting time and patients satisfaction is important to avail the services. Patient satisfaction is one of the important goals of any health system, but it is difficult to measure the satisfaction. Aims & objectives were (1) to study the waiting time at various Out Patient Department (OPDs). and various investigation; (2) To study the accessibility of various department of hospital; (3) To study the patient satisfaction on hospital process, behavior of hospital staff and treatment cost.Methods: This was a cross sectional observational study conducted in G.M.E.R.S. Hospital-Valsad for the period of 2 months and total 135 patients were interviewed availing the OPD Services.Results: The mean age of patient attending the OPD was 30.31±15.65 years and majority of them are female patient (54.07%). Hospital staff (48.89%) was main source of guidance for searching the OPDs for consulting the doctor. 54.07% patient registered 20 min after standing in queue. The mean waiting time was 12.16±2.35 min. 94.07% and 98.52% patients were satisfied with treatment cost and behavior of staff respectively.Conclusions: Many patients face the difficulties in finding the various departments. On an average 12 minutes of waiting time outside the various O.P.Ds. They were also satisfied with the treatment cost and behaviour of hospital staff.
Background: Self-medication is becoming a most prevalent practice among educated people across the world. In today’s era, internet and media is one of the most important sources for promoting self-medication practice. Medical students are highly influenced with this practice as their future medical preference and the fact that medical students find themselves having more knowledge about drugs this may lead to irrational usage of drugs. Aim and Objectives of the study were conducted to know the 1. Self-medication practices among medical students 2. Common, indications and reasons for self-medication practice. 3.Attitude of medical students towards self-medication practice.Methods: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was conducted among undergraduate medical students of GMERS Medical College Valsad. The study was carried out in the months of October to December 2017. Medical students of first and final year MBBS participated voluntarily in this study after being briefed in detail about the goals & method of the study.Results: In this study, 91.50% of medical students were practiced self-medication. The common indication for self-medication was fever (76.50%) and cough (75.96%). Acquaintances (67.76%) are main source of information for self-medication. Common reasons they know the medicine (78.14%) and previous exposure (64.48%). 12.5% student perceived self-medication is harmless and 21.0% of medical students advise other to take self-medication.Conclusions: It was concluded that more than half of strength of students practice self-medication for various illnesses; the reason might be the awareness of drugs due to easy accessibility of information through books, internet as well as availability of medicine without prescription from pharmacist. So, essential measure should be taken to reduce the practice of self-medication among students to avoid development of drug dependence, resistance and drug interactions.
