CPC walls with and without EMD promoted regeneration of alveolar bone and cementum in 1-wall infrabony defects. Space and stable wound healing are believed to be crucial for periodontal regeneration in non-contained infrabony defects.

These results suggest that rhCI seems to allow the release of rhGDF-5 and that rhGDF-5-rhCI composite induces endochondral ossification via Sox9 expression and angiogenesis in murine calvariae.
