The approaches to calculate these values are based on simple statistics, as quartile technique. The results showed that the dry years frequency varied of 21 to 28%. The normal and wet years frequency distribution varied of 38 to 61% and 12.5 to 25.5%, respectively. Cisterns with 16 m 3 volume (Brazilian standard water tank) showed be suitable to rainfall index from the region. The amount of rain water was enough to fill a standard water tank, using a roof catchment area of 40 m 2 . This standard tank is able to supply one family in Piaui State during one year, in the around 80% of studied years.
