[Bahasa]: Saat ini Bahasa Inggris tidak menjadi pelajaran wajib di level sekolah dasar melainkan hanya sebagai salah satu mata pelajaran muatan lokal. Sedangkan pada kenyataannya kebanyakan sekolah dasar di Kota Praya tidak memberikan Bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran muatan lokal. Faktor ekonomi dan latar belakang pendidikan kelurga yang tidak dapat mendukung pelajaran tambahan berupa kursus belajar Bahasa Inggris juga menjadi faktor penghambat rendahnya kemampuan Bahasa Inggris dasar siswa. Hal ini semakin memperkuat stereotype bahwa Bahasa Inggris itu sulit dipahami dan dipelajari. Pembatasan pembelajaran selama Pandemi COVID 19 semakin melemahkan minat siswa untuk mengenal dan belajar Bahasa Inggris dari awal. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian dengan metode Asset Based Communities Development (ABCD) ini ditujukan untuk memberikan pengenalan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dasar untuk anak-anak selama masa pandemi. Kegiatan pengabdian berupa program pengenalan materi bahasa Inggris dasar dengan peserta 13 anak. Materi yang disampaikan berupa Introducing, Alphabet, Numbers, Days, Things in classroom, Family, Asking permission, dan Giving expressions. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman awal Bahasa Inggris dasar anak-anak. Pemahaman awal yang baik terhadap Bahasa Inggris dasar akan menunjang kemampuan anak-anak ketika berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sederhana dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kata Kunci: bahasa Inggris anak-anak, pandemi COVID 19, pengenalan pembelajaran [English]: Recently, English Subject is not an obligatory subject in primary school but only as one of local content subjects. Most of primary school in Praya doesn’t give English as local content subjects. The economic factor and family’s educational background which cannot give a supporting learning such as English course are also the burden factors of students’ low English proficiency. This condition strengthens the stereotype that English is difficult to learn. The learning restriction during the COVID 19 pandemic weakens the students’ motivation to learn English earlier. Therefore, this Asset Based Communities Development (ABCD) method-community service was aimed to give the introduction toward English for childen during the pandemic. The activity was followed by 13 children. Meanwhile, the materials are Introducing, alphabet, numbers, days, things in classroom, family, asking permission, and giving expressions. This community service result showed that the children’s knowledge of basic English improved. Afterward, this well basic English understanding will support the children’s ability to communicate the simple English in daily life. The research aims to know the types of code mixing, the type of code switching and the factors of code-switching and code-mixing in the process of learning English in 6th semester students of the English Language Education department of UIN Mataram. This research was used descriptive qualitative approach. The subject of this study was one of the classes in the British American Australian course. The research applies observation, interviews and documents in collecting data. The study reveals that (1) there are 2 types of code mixing namely Insertion and alternation;(2) there are 2 types of code switching namely Intra-Sentential and Intra-Sentential; (3) there are 4 factors that cause students did code switching and code mixing in class namely situation, talking about a particular topic, difficulties to finding equivalent words in language in used, and intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor.
Continuous teacher reflection is part of the teachers’ education literature. However, in practice, teachers rarely carry out self-reflection processes to make a number of improvements toward their professional performance. This research aimed to know (1) the professional competency of State Primary Islamic School (MIN) English teachers in Mataram in conducting learning process; (2) the reflective practice of these teachers to improve their professional competencies in conducting learning process. This is a qualitative descriptive research as it describes data of the professional competency and the reflective practice of State Primary Islamic School (MIN) English teachers in Mataram in conducting learning process. To collect data, the reseracher uses observation, interview and dokumentation. The research informen are MIN headmasters, English language teachers, and some students. The data analysis technique used (1) data reduction; (2) data verification; and (3) Conclusion. The reserach result showed that (1) the professional competency of State Primary Islamic School (MIN) English teachers in Mataram in conducting learning process is good enough. It is indicated through implementation of three learning activities (Introduction Activity, Main Activity, and Closing Activity) with the supported activities; (2) There are 3 types of reflective practice done by English teachers of State Primary Islamic School (MIN) in Mataram through learning process namely (a) the use of learning media; (b) the addition of exercise score; and (c) the chianging of exercise content.
Creative learning strategy has turned out to be an important issue in foreign language learning. This article is aimed to investigate the benefits and challenges of group discussion as creative learning strategy to improve speaking’s proficiency. The research was conducted in an Islamic Senior High School. The research applied qualitative approach by using interviews and Focus-Group Discussions with 8 students as the source of data. Based on the analysis results, it was found that Group Discussion as creative learning strategy were beneficial during the speaking class because of it promote interaction and learning, motivation encouragement, and develop respect to another’s’ idea. Meanwhile, during the group discussion several issues arouse namely the individual learning preference, the problems with language aspects, and the students’ self-confidence. The research implies the significance of creative learning strategy to improve the English speaking successfully.
In general, most of the students of seventh grade have difficulties in comprehending texts. The objective of this research is to investigate whether the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC), can improve the students’ reading comprehension at a junior high school in East Lombok Regency. The participants of this research were 25 students. This research was classroom action research which was done in two cycles. The data of this research were collected by conducting observation, test, and documentation, with the criteria of minimum mastery (KKM) of 75. There were two kinds of activities observed namely the teacher’s activity and the students’ activity. The students’ ability was measured by using comprehension test. The result showed that the students successfully met the criteria of minimum mastery. It was indicated from the improvement of the students’ mean score from 67 in Cycle 1 to 81 in Cycle 2. Moreover, the teaching activities improve from 74 in cycle 1 to 94 in cycle 2. Furthermore, the students’ activity also improves from 47 in cycle 1 to 84 in cycle 2. In conclusion, CIRC method was found beneficial to improve the students’ reading comprehension, and to enhance the teaching learning process of reading.
