Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of important freshwater cultivated fish species in Indonesia. Aeromonas hydrophila is accounted as potential pathogenic bacteria in Carp. In this study we investigated the effectiveness of crude extract of Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) for the treatment of A. hydrophila infected fish. Furthermore, alteration of histophatology of several organs, gills, kidney, liver and muscle were investigated. Crude Extract of Dayak Onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L) Merr. (CEDO) with the doses of 50, 60, 70 and 80 ppm were used for treatment of A. hydrophila infected carp for 11 days. Prior to investigation of histopatology of gills, kidneys, hearts, muscle, the Carp was moved to fresh-non infected fish tank. The Result indicated that gill experienced Hyperplasia, Fusion, Necrosis. Kidney experienced Degeneration, Congestion, Necrosis. Liver experienced the vacuole degeneration, congestion, Melano macrophages, necrosis. Muscle experienced Edema and necrosis. But fish treated with 80 ppm treatment showed less damage and tissue repair.
AbstractThe existence of disease in aquatic environment is one of the constraints in the development of fishery aquaculture sub-sector. Bacteria A. hydrophila is one of the bacteria that cause disease in fish. To overcome this, farmers often use antibiotics. Continuous use of antibiotics can provide a negative one of which can make bacteria resistant and pollute the aquatic environment so that an environmentally friendly alternative is needed. One of the medicinal plants that can be used an environmentally friendly alternative is dragon fruit skin (H. costaricensis). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of crude extract of dragon fruit skin (H. costaricensis) to histopathologic liver of tilapia (O. niloticus) infected by A. hydrophila bacteria. The method used in this research is experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). In this study consisted of 4 treatments, 2 controls and 3 replications. The treatment used was crude dragon fruit extract (H. costaricensis) with dose of 6 ppm, 26 ppm, 46 ppm and 66 ppm. liver tissue removal was performed on day 5 after treatment. Data analysis using scoring method by calculating the percentage of liver cell damage. The results of treatment giving crude extract of dragon fruit skin (H. costaricensis) give influence to tissue of liver of tilapia (O. niloticus). The...
The objectives of the research were to investigate the effect of ketapang (Terminalia catappa) bark crude extract (KBCE) on Aeromonas hydrophila growth and blood cells of the A. hydrophila-infected carp (Cyprinus carpio). The Research was conducted by using completely randomized design. There were four (750, 850, 950, and 1,050 ppm) and three treatments (730, 750, and 770 ppm) were used for in vitro and in vivo experiments respectively. Data were analyzed by analysis of variation and LSD. The dose to investigate MIC of KBCE were 750, 850, 950 and 1,050 ppm. The MIC of KBCE was 750 ppm. On in vivo investigation, number of erythrocytes were 224.67x10, 332.67x10, and 417.00x10 cells/mm for 730, 750 and 770 ppm KBCE, respectively. For leukocytes, the amount were 735.89x10, 684.78x10, and 652.67x10 cell/mm for 730, 750 and 770 ppm KBCE, respectively. In addition, the water quality were as follows 24.0 – 25.9C of temperature, 7.0 – 7.7 of pH, and 3.9 – 4.8 mg/L of DO. In conclusion, we revealed that KBCE able to act as antibacterial against A. hydrophila. Furthermore, it also induced the total erythrocyte in infected fish without giving a notable effect on water quality.
