Expressions for thermodynamic equilibrium constants are set up for the ion-exchange equilibria of models defined in terms of operational variables. Formulas summarizing the methods for the computation of the requisite activity coefficients are given. In particular, the effects of the solvent, which is considered as an independently variable component, are taken explicitly into account.
The relation between solubilities and solubility products is far less intimate than is stated or implied by introductory texts and the ideas and calculations involved are too complex for presentation on the elementary level.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
