Sludge waste of deinking process as toxic and hazardous material from spesific source containing ABSTRAKLimbah sludge proses deinking sebagai B3 dari sumber spesifik karena mengandung logam Pb dari tinta yang larut dalam air limbah. Menurut Kep.Men. LH no. 33/2009 semua industri wajib melakukan pemulihan lahan tekontaminasi limbah B3.
Natural fiber-reinforced composites can reduce the use of synthetic fibers and resins, making them more environmentally friendly. Bamboo fiber is a long fiber from non woody plant with a shorter growing season than wood. A study has been conducted to investigate the potential of bamboos, which are endemic in West Java, namely Tali bamboo (G. apus), Temen bamboo (G. pseudoarundinacea) and Haur bamboo/Green ampel (B. vulgaris v. Green), as sound absorber composite materials. Bamboo contains 21% - 22 % lignin, 44% - 53% alpha cellulose, 21% - 23% hemicelluloses, which makes it a potential pulp feedstock. Because of the adhesive nature of lignin, it is necessary to produce a pulp with a Kappa number of about 30 (+ 5% lignin). In accordance with bamboo characteristics, Tali bamboo requires less amount of cooking chemicals due to its lower contents of extractive substances and lignin, whereas Temen bamboo and especially Haur bamboo require more chemicals. Therefore, tali bamboo was chosen to produce pulp by Kraft cooking process. Subsequently, bamboo fiber was prepared by soda cooking process at the same conditions. Later on, some trial experiments with epoxy resin were performed to make sound absorber composites. The results show that at the reference frequency (5000 Hz) the pulp and bamboo fiber composites provide the maximum sound absorption coefficients (α) of 0.28 and 0.77, respectively. Hence, the composite meets the minimum standard of sound absorption coefficient of ISO 11654:1997 (α = 0.25). Moreover, the composite of epoxy and bamboo fiber is light (specific gravity <1) with an ability to reduce 97% of the sound at 2500 Hz.Keywords : fiber and pulp bamboo, nonwood, sound absorber composite, sound absorption coefficien ABSTRAK Komposit berpenguat serat alam, dapat mengurangi pemakaian serat sintetis dan resin, sehingga lebih ramah lingkungan.
Selain itu komposit serat bambu yang dihasilkan termasuk golongan papan serat kerapatan tinggi, dan kandungan air, penyerapan, perubahan panjang, pengembangan tebal dan keteguhan lentur dan modulus elastisitasnya sesuai dengan standar yang berlaku untuk papan serat (SNI 01 -4449 -2006, papan serat).Kata kunci: komposit, papan serat, pemasakan dengan proses soda, serat dan pulp bambu tali (Gigantochloa apus) ABSTRACTBamboo cropping period is quite short compared to wood, but fiber and bamboo pulp have not been optimally used as a substitute for wood in composite industry, such as fiber board. It is worth to be studied, because of the availability of wood is increasingly limited. Therefore, study has been done using fiber and bamboo pulp (G. apus) for fiberboard. The study was conducted using bamboo fibers from bamboo strips cooked with soda process and bamboo pulp from chips of bamboo cooked with soda process and Kraft process. Composite of bamboo fiber is made with a variety of fiber weight fraction to the epoxy resin matrix. Furthermore composite of bamboo pulp is made under optimal condition for making fiber composite. From the test results it is known that the quality of the bamboo fiber composite from bamboo strips cooked with soda process is better than the composite of bamboo pulp. Besides bamboo fiber composites produced belonged to the high-density fiberboard, and the water content, water absorption, changes in the length and thickness, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity are in accordance with applicable standar for fiberboard (SNI 01-4449 -2006).
Paper mill using recycle fiber as raw material produces reject containing fiber and plastic. The reject was identified by means of sorting. Reject pellet was prepared by drying, followed by shredding, and pellets molding. It was analyzed for its proximate composition (moisture, ash, volatile matter and fixed carbon). Calorific value, sulfur content, ash mineral content, and ash fusion temperatures were also tested. The results showed that reject consists of 50.75% fiber and 49.25% plastic of which is > 99% High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Reject contains a high calorific value of about 7000 cal/g which could potentially be used as fuel. Coal boiler fuel containing 5-50% reject pellet shows no indication of slagging and fouling in the boiler.
