Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan prototipe-1 panduan pengembangan kebiasaan perilaku melayani dengan teknik <em>self monitoring </em>berbasis kajian teoritik dan empirik yang siap diuji validitas, kepraktisan dan keefektifannya: untuk siswa SMA. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pengembangan (<em>Research and Develpoment</em>), namun hanya sampai pada tahap pra-pengembangan yaitu tahap pembuatan produk. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik SMA Negeri kelas X, XI dan XII se-eks Karesidenan Surakarta. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data tingkat kebutuhan dan kepentingan pengembangan diri peserta didik dan data mengenai perilaku melayani. Selain itu diperoleh pula data mengenai pengembangan kebiasaan perilaku melayani dan teknik self monitoring melalui studi literatur. Data yang didapatkan dari lapangan berupa data kebutuhan dan kepentingan peserta didik, perolehan data berdasarkan tiga responden yang terdiri dari peserta didik, guru bimbingan dan konseling serta orang tua. Hasil persentase kebutuhan dan kepentingan tertinggi akan dijadikan judul penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini terbagi menjadi tiga yaitu: Pertama, kajian empirik diperoleh data tingkat kebutuhan dan kepentingan peserta didik dari 3389 responden menghasilkan persentase 62,59% merasa sangat butuh, 35,05% merasa butuh dan 63,51% merasa sangat penting, 34,55% merasa penting terhadap pengembangan kebiasaan perilaku melayani terhadap orang tua, guru dan teman sebaya. Kedua, mengenai <em>self monitoring</em> meliputi pengertian <em>self monitoring</em>, tujuan <em>self monitoring</em>, langkah-langkah <em>self monitoring</em>, serta teknik pengumpulan data <em>self monitoring</em>. Ketiga, berdasarkan kajian empirik dan teoritis tersebut penelitian ini menghasilkan prototipe satu berupa“Panduan Pengembangan Kebiasaan Perilaku Melayani dengan Teknik <em>Self Monitoring </em>pada Peserta Didik Sekolah Menengah Atas”.
