-Low back pain is increasing considerably among adolescents, reaching proportions similar to the adult population. Flexibility (Flex) and muscle strength/resistance, components of Health-Related Physical Fitness (HRPF), seem to be associated with presence of low back pain. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of Flex and muscle strength/resistance in the screening of adolescents with low back pain and to propose cutoff points for these HRPF components. The study was conducted with 1.455 students aged 10-17 years randomly selected. Low back pain was estimated using a questionnaire. Flex was measured by the sit and reach test and muscle strength/resistance by the one minute sit up test. The analysis of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to identify the capacity of Flex and muscle strength/resistance for screening low back pain. To propose cutoffs points, the best balance between sensitivity and specificity was analyzed. The frequency of low back pain was 16.1 %, higher (p<0.05) among females (21.6%) than in males (10.5%). The ROC curve analysis indicated that Flex is able to identify girls more likely of having low back pain (p<0.05). Sit and reach test and the proposed cutoff points can be used as screening tool of female adolescents more likely of having low back pain.Key words: Adolescents; Health; Low back pain; Roc curve.
Atividade motora; Sedentarismo; Classe social.abstRact Despite the recognized importance of physical activity (PA) for health, evidence suggests that the time in sedentary activities has increased among adolescents and may be associated with several factors, including socioeconomic. The aim of the study was to identify associations between AF, sedentary behavior and socioeconomic status (SES) in adolescents. The study had a sample of 1,455 adolescents (741 girls) from 10 to 17 years randomly selected from public schools in Uruguaiana/RS. The AF was estimated by the PAQ-C and PAQ-A and adolescents were classified as sufficiently or insufficiently active. Sedentary behavior was considered from the self-report (questionnaire) on screen time (average daily time watching television, using computer, video games and other electronic equipment). The adolescents were divided into two groups: screen time up to three hours / day and more than three hours / day. The NSE was considered as the Criterion of Economic Classification Brazil. For data analysis was used descriptive statistics, Chi-square test for trend and binary logistic regression. The AF was not associated with socioeconomic status (p = 0.562), even when the analysis was stratified by gender (p = 0.360 boys; girls p = 0.309). The screen time was associated with socioeconomic level only in boys (p = 0.043). Male adolescents of higher socioeconomic status are more likely (OR: 1.83; 95% CI: 1.02 to 3.28) to stay more than three hours / day in sedentary activities. Socioeconomic status is directly associated with the screen time in male adolescents. KeywoRdsMotor Activity; sedentary lifestyle; Social Class. 504 silva et al. This study seeks to reflect and discuss about the perception that teachers have about the concept of mental health and their own mental health condition. It is an exploratory descriptive study developed in a state high school, in a municipality on the western border of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. A questionnaire was applied containing open and closed questions, with guiding questions. Data analysis was based on content analysis, with the breakdown of responses into categories. 33 female teachers and 7 teachers participated in the study, totaling 40 individuals. Through the analysis of the data it was possible to notice that the teachers of the school present a superficial understanding of the concept of mental health, relating to behavioral and attitudinal actions. They visualize their mental health status as impaired, bringing stress and exhaustion as the main reasons for such a situation, in addition to visualizing influences of routine and work environment, such as professional devaluation and interpersonal relationships as factors of influence on their health status. mental. Such results help a better understanding of the theme among the population addressed, contributing to the development of more effective strategies for improvement and promotion of mental health.
Participaram do estudo 1011 adolescentes.
