OBJETIVO: Relatar a experiência dos estagiários de Terapia Ocupacional no ambiente hospitalar, através de atividades com materiais de baixo custo que contribuem na humanização do cuidado. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, do tipo relato de experiência, que contempla a importância da Terapia Ocupacional sob o olhar acadêmico em uma enfermaria oncológica. Os materiais utilizados são de baixo custo, tais como, telas para pintura, tintas, pincéis, além de estruturas de apoio confeccionado com tubos e conexões de PVC. RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: As visitas no leito promoveram vínculos e escuta qualificada. Após avaliação, foram propostas atividades de autoexpressão, tendo como objetivo minimizar o sofrimento inerentes à internação hospitalar. Contata-se que a utilização de recursos de baixo custo oportunizou momentos de autoconhecimento e estratégias para o enfrentamento da doença. CONCLUSÃO: Com a experiência do estágio foi possível identificar que a intervenção da Terapia Ocupacional, ao se utilizar de recursos de baixo custo nas atividades de autoexpressão, se mostrou eficaz, amenizando as angústias, dores e sofrimento. Além disso, permitiu uma reflexão acadêmica quanto ao olhar humanizado.
